I agree with Ernie Koala but if Dew doesn't want to be at the club then what's the point of keeping him?

    - - - Updated - - -

In addition to my previous comment it is a bit rich trying to poach one of the best young players, and Dew and Stone, I'd be annoyed too.

Roos saying..."Oh, I've been out of coaching for 3 years, so I spoke to Armstrong Re: coach hiring protocol, he said it's OK to pursue a contracted coach as long as you are offering him a more senior role."

My view Roos had this discussion with the sole objective of going after Stewie Dew, who is contracted to the Swans.

I would of thought the right way to go about that would have been to approach the Swans and seek permission to interview him, assuming Dew wants to leave. Not do it behind their back.

He went on to say "Dew applied for the job"...ie 'It's none of my making'.....Please Paul, that's poor double speak by your lofty standards, lift your game.

The other issue...Poaching Perris from the Swans academy. "I don't know what that's about, he really wants to play for the Swans. But if he chooses to go into the draft, well then he's anybodies"

My take...Roos is leaving out the, not unimportant, bit when he got into Perris's ear to suggest if he wants to go straight onto a senior list, rather than languishing on the Swans rookie list, then opt for the draft

      and I'll draft you....Underhanded IMO.

In the 20 years Colless has run our club, I've never seen him take the long handle to a Swans, or ex Swans employee, as he has with Roos this week...

Very strange, out of character behaviour....If you were to accept Roos version of events.
Ernie, I assume you are quoting from discussion on the show. It raised a couple of questions in my mind.
      Who is Armstrong?
Do we know who first raised the coaching job, Roos or Dew?
Was the conversation with Perris a consequence of Perris' objections to going on the rookie list, as Matthew Lloyd implied?
I realise you may not know, but I'm just curious how all this unfolded. And I'm disturbed and disappointed that it has got to the stage where Roos and Colless have apparently fallen out with each other. I'm sure the club will weather any storm, but I'd rather see two such significant people in our recent history reach some kind of amicable understanding.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Yes ,I'm quoting Roos account of events, with Mike On The Couch....Not word for word but pretty close.

Armstrong, I think, is a coach manager.... But it wasn't specified. He may be from the Coaches association.

The bitterness was palpable and Roos made it clear he would not be talking to the Swans unless an apology was posted on the Swans website....

Doubt that will happen so it's a stand off with no resolution in sight.

One positive...Maybe our 05 premiership captain may come back to the fold !?

In addition to Dew and Perris possibly leaving, Stone and Tudor are leaving, the coaching cupboard is getting bare at the swans. Things are definitely nasty between the club and Roos.

My recollection is that Dew originally found his way to the Swans because his wife / girlfriend / whatever lived / worked in Sydney, he wanted to coach, and someone recommended him to the Swans. If Dew is now seeking a job at Melbourne, it may be because family circumstances mean he wants to live and work in Melbourne, and Melbourne FC is an opportunity to do so.

I would imagine he's interested in a senior position and the succession plan at the dees appeals to him. If so then thanks Stewy and good luck with that.

Wow they way this is falling apart is so, so sad from a fan's point of view. Roos seems confused by our anger and the club can't understand how Roos can think what he is doing is okay. Why they've both decided to take this to the media I have no idea.

A strong stand by the club but I don't agree with it. I feel the decision was made so that Roos doesn't get his way. Wrong motive.

If Roos is really in Perris' ear, after he would always talk of how crucial the academy is for the future of the Swans, he can GAGF.

I'm not an insider, so correct me if my facts are wrong!

Leigh Tudor interviewed for a more senior job ( Brisbane Head Coach) and i assume is still under contract with the Swans!

Stuart Dew wanted to interview for a more senior job at Melbourne, which the Swans stopped him from doing, citing that he still had one year on his contract!

What is the difference in these two cases other than two guys trying to further their careers?

I've spoken to a chap who knows such things a whie ago and he suggested tat Dew is viewed interally as a potential next head coach for the club, similar to Horse under Roos. There was no suggestion Horse doesn't want to be a long term coach at all, just that Drew's sort of peniled in for long term succession plans.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

If that was the case, I'd have thought the Swans would not of stopped him from interviewing.

They haven't done this with others that I know of, Horse and Lyon both interviewed for jobs while still contracted to the Swans.

It certainly wouldn't help the club in future appointments if people thought the Swans were hardnosed and inflexible about coaches furthering their careers.

The fact that the Swans/ Colless have come out so fiercely against Roos suggests trust has been broken by things happening behind their backs.
