Tend to agree with that. He is really a poor mans Tippett, gets by at FF and the ruck, but really pretty crap at both.

I'd prefer the Swans to get a fair dinkum ruckmen who is prepared to toil away in the NEAFL knowing he is purely a backup player...

Hampson would be in the same boat as Jessie White, he won't move to us to play in the NEAFL

He is a similar player to Jessie in that he is very athletic but has some flaws in his game, he would be a decent pick up for a team looking for a 2nd a ruckman who can play forward.

Prior to Buddy I was thinking he would be an option for us if White and Mummy both left, but I think we'll draft a state leaguer as back up and roll the dice on a Pyke/LRT/Tippet combination, with Naismith/yet to be drafted back up giving Pyke a few games off over the course of the season

I've got a brazen idea, and I want people to know that I respect all players in this idea.

Lets go for GWS's number 1 pick and stun the competition again. We could give them Mumford, Everitte, Bird and Grundy for that pick!

We get Tom Boyd as Buddy and Kurts apprentice, while they get 4 experienced players (three of them premiership players) to build their team around!

We also reduce our salary cap and open up some opportunities for the rookies on our list!

          Any tackers?

Seriously.... Seeing they can get Mumford for nothing in the PSD, do you really think Everitt Bird and Grundy are worth pick 1? Also, GWS don't need midfielders, Everitt is really a fringe first team player for us at best, and Grundy is a solid, dependable backman, but no superstar.

In addition, we don't need Boyd. Big forwards are not what we need when we are getting Buddy, they are certainly not an issue.

The problem with getting a backup ruckman is that he can't be very good or else he wouldn't want to be a backup ruckman. I think Richmond are considering Hampson as a backup for Maric. I think Hampson is the level of player that we could go for. Otherwise, we can get someone like Mark Seaby on a 1 year rookie contract, and (or) get a younger ruckman in the draft.

Rory Lobb perhaps? Heard a rumour mid-year that we were keen on him. WAFL ruckman for Swan Districts.

I've thought about this before. Certainly we would need to offer more than that and Reid would need to be part of the mix.

It is tempting but I would prefer to keep Reid and develop him as a KPM.

Everitt going makes sense as it frees up some additional salary as we squezze Buddy in.

Good to see that Perris has accepted a rookie list offer.

Yes please!! Wonder if Everitt plus Mummy would be enough to get GWS to swap pick 9 to 14, reckon ttop 10 could get this kid

So ,quite predictably, they are going to make sure they get a little back on the Swans...

It seems like teams are willing to let players go for less than in the past, sometimes for nothing. Maybe it's the way things are in the age of free agency.

If a player wants to get to a club, free agent or not, they can get there. Teams are just not willing to draft someone in the PSD if they don't want to go there.

Definitely. It's becoming more about clearing salary cap space, than about draft picks...Which are handed out as compensation, with free agents leaving, anyway.

I'll be surprised if the Swans don't offload Armstrong, either packaged up, or for nothing.

I would have thought him and Everitt would have been a good fit with GWS. They need defenders and they'd be getting two players with experience in the best defensive unit in the league.

I think something like your suggestion is the best hope we have of getting another decent pick in the draft. Maybe along with Mummy and our 3rd rounder we could get GSW's 2nd rounder, looking like #21 at this time. There also could be a deal for a player instead of a pick.

You have to think now that the reason Mummy, White, Dre and Lamb were not offered contracts was in anticipation of getting Buddy and these 4 were selected as the one sthat had to go to make salary cap space.

He's contracted, so he won't be offloaded as such unless he wants to go and we can find a club to pick up his current contract.
