I am curious about this quote from Cordy (who you would imagine would be more familiar with the Swans then most other journos):

With Shane Mumford off the Giants and Jesse White keen on a move to Collingwood Lamb remains the only senior player out of contract at the club.
If correct, can we assume, Everitt, AJ & Shaw have already signed on for next year?

Interesting snippet from Liam Pickering talking about the Buddy deal and lack of compensation for the Hawks, saying that trading Mummy to them was not an option because Mummy didn't want to be a Hawk! If that is true Mummy certainly bucks the current trend of players moving clubs with an eye to playing in a premiership team - GWS v Hawks??? Mummy must be happy with his one medal - unless GWS miraculously power up the ladder - and must like being in Sydney!

Yeah I guess everyone is different.
Many top players never win a premiership medal.
The Swans took Mummy from the Cats and gave him a go, and he thrived and achieved the ultimate goal = forever grateful to the Swans.
Sounds like he understands that the Swans have to act in the best interests of the team and the he is still highly rated by them = no animosity.
Perhaps he is content with what he has achieved, and understands that he may never do so again, no matter which club he is at = go for some cash, stay where you're happy.
Seems like a top bloke, as reflected whenever I've seen him interviewed etc

That's precisely what he said when interviewed.....Loves living in Sydney and wanted to stay here is possible.

Mummy was genuinely in party mode last night - and playing to the crowds. But the talk here is that we wanted to move him on. I believe that's the case with Jesse but didn't Mummy ask for loner than we were prepared to give him. And even GWS have given him 3 not 4 years but on the money he wanted over 4 years. So wasn't it that Mummy wouldn't accept our offer rather than we cast him out? (Though it'd be hard to afford him with the final Franklin offer.)

Correct. We offered him a 2-year deal but he wanted 4.

Probably a little homesick because of his injuries. Give a season of full fitness and he will be back to Sydney loving, champion CHB/F we know and love

                    Ruck Backup?

Approaching the 2014 season with only 1 true ruck option (Naismith only played a handful of games last year in the two's) and a couple of part timers (LRT & Tippett) seems a gamble.
I think the Swans should seek out a mature bodied stop-gap ruckman (ala Hudson at Brisbane/Collingwood or Stephenson Geelong/Richmond) as insurance, perhaps as a rookie or late national draft selection . . . .

Rohan Connelly mentioned on SEN just now that apparently Freo "are into Sam Reid in a big way". Now hearing Connelly say it I take with a grain of salt. If any truth to it, only one deal I'd be interested in.......Sam and our first pick for Nathan Fyffe. Sorry Sam but I'd do that deal, not sure Freo would though. Only place I could see Sam going to is Victoria getting closer to his brother if he was to leave. We could get his brother to join him at Sydney when Ben is a restricted free agent next year.

For the Swans to be prepared to trade Sam out, several (not necessarily all) of the following would need to apply:

                          - Sam wants out (whether to be closer to his brother or because he thinks his opportunities at the Swans will be limited)
                          - the Swans are nervous the salary cap might be a bit too close to comfort
                          - the Swans aren't sure whether Sam can transition to be a back man (which may be where he has the most immediate value)
                          - some other club offers a deal too good to be refused

I hope it doesn't happen. The problem with Freo is that they're unlikely to be in a position to offer a deal too good to be refused (to the Swans, via a trade - I am sure they can offer Sam more money). They are so firmly in a premiership window that they are not going to want to lose any of their x-factor or other highly valuable players. Fyfe won't be going anywhere but there are a couple of others who'd probably make the Swans a better side - Clark or Walters, for example. But the Dockers aren't going to let go of their number two ruckman or their mercurial small forward in a hurry.

Don't think we could afford Fyfe anyway even if Sam went.

the same fyfe who missed 5 goals in the GF ?

I like Fyfe he is a very talented player......but lets be honest - finding a Sam Reid CHF CHB is alot tougher to do...... so why would we let him go ??

Sam Reid has the world at his feet and with Buddy and Kurt in the 22 I can not wait to watch the Swannies in 2014 !!

A few points on Sam Reid:

                                1. There were rumours floating around about a trade involving Sam. I believe several journos checked the story directly with the club, and reported back that that they were told Sam was under contract and wasn't going anywhere.

                                2. Sam started out as a defender, but was rushed into service as a forward on the back of the one game he played in 2010, because at that time we were desperate for a forward line.

                                3. I think Sam is likely to settle in as a defender, but could be one of those players that can play forward, back or on the wing, depending on circumstances, which would be very valuable.
