I don't like to say it but perhaps we should let Jesse slip to the PSD. We lost out with Mummy and rolled over so you can see I am 'pi" off. Was happy for Buddy early on but I am changing my mind. Again I know HS is contracted but the pies want him out so why do they hold the upper hand.

Spot on Ludwig in post 9 above. You have clearly explained 'depth'. it is not reasonable to expect a group of first grade players to be biding their time in the seconds waiting for someone to get injured. The reserves team is where we need to be developing our young players.

If we traded for HS we have to take on all or part of his unpaid salary as per negotiations. There is a fair chance we can't afford him.

These are very low picks we're talking about, for important KPP players in their prime. What happened to being fair? Clubs aren't going to hate us just for asking a reasonable price.

Fair! What's that? There is no fairness in war. At trade time it is war. Clubs are after their best possible outcomes. White has shown a bit in the second half of the season. Before that he has been ordinary. No way we can command anything but an average pick for him. In fact the Pies are taking a big gamble if he is to be a Cloke backup. If Cloke goes down with a serious injury it is a risk to think White will step up to the plate anywhere near the Cloke level.

If White is open to going to any Melbourne club, I don't see why the Saints wouldn't be interested. They need a forward who can ruck, as they've lost McEvoy, and they now have loads of draft picks around the 20 mark. We should be talking to them. They should have a bit of change in the cap as well. It's an option they should look at instead of going after Billy Longer.

Welcome to the age of free agency. The same reason we gave nothing for Buddy.

WTF are you on about Wolfy????? For somebody that takes others to task regularly, you should learn the free agency rules a bit better...

The Pies hold the upperhand with Shaw as he is contracted. If they don't get a deal they like they can keep Shaw and he can't nominate for the PSD. As for Mumford, he is uncontracted and he could nominate for the PSD so we probably would of lost him for nothing.....given the circumstances a 35 pick is what I expected. I think I said in a previous post that we may land around a pick 25 to offload both Mumford and Everitt to GWS and that could be as best given the circumstances.

An interesting sidelight to the events playing out in this draft are the draft concessions given to clubs that are losing free agents. I think the AFL will change the rules and draft concessions may be abolished before next years draft. Some clubs, including us, may be looking deeper at their free agents for next year and may put some players on the trade table now to get something for them. It would be players they feel are a flight risk and not committing to extending contracts. There maybe some interesting names traded by the end of next week.

White is a forward and not a ruckman. I wouldn't be confident in White being a second ruck as I don't think he has enough footy smarts to play the ruck contests. Any club looking to recruit him as a second ruck is making a mistake in my opinion. A club should be looking to play him as a mobile forward similar to a Darling type.

After FA compensation, pick 35 is now pick 39.

Wolfie, the draft concessions awarded to clubs who have lost free agents aren't based upon where the opposition club draft picks are.

Better than pick 1 PSD for nothing. GWS didn't have to deal with us.

Eddie McGuire must be running the AFL if they can get pick 11 for Thomas, while Franklin is only worth pick 19. It really should have been an end of 1st round pick to bring a bit of balance to the system. I can see giving Melboure and St. Kilda a bit of a break with compo picks, but not the top teams.
