As I have said all along, Franklin-type contracts will become the norm now that free agency is in. In time, the Swans will be seen to have copped it for being first to recognise it rather than the size of the deal.

Theoretically if the salary cape doubles within five years or even increases by 50% and you said that player salaries would all correspondingly do the same, then most of the swans top half dozen players will probably be on similar money at that time.Comment

This thread is becoming the Swans expat thread.
Mumford has gone down with a minor knee and will miss two weeks.
Everette and Jed Lamb got plenty of game time for their new clubs in losing efforts.
Jesse White was highly impressive for Collingwood on Friday night. On a slippery night he contributed 3 goals, 4 tackles and 7 marks. He was the best key forward on the ground. The Magpies are very impressed with his work rate and athleticism. Good to see him doing well.Comment

Hopefully Tippett and Reid get over their proneness to injury.Comment

Yep, for every good thing Mummy did and as much as I loved him, he still faded waaaaay too much during the season and missed too many games.
The player I'm most upset about losing is Lamb and he hasn't even started that many games yet.
Not particularly interested in Everitt or White.Comment

Maybe he is getting better service from the mids at the pies than our rabble.Comment

We have lost some bonafide stars, players who we knew were talented or players who would almost certainly be stars (Grant, Rocca, Jolly, Mummy, Dempster, Schneider) ... guys we didn't really want to lose.
We let a few guys go who we suspected wouldn't make it or were past it (and were proven correct - Vespa, Monty, Powell)
We have benefitted from MANY more players requiring a change of scenery to improve and to get the best out of themselves, players who looked like they might not make it at their previous clubs, but turned their careers around BIG TIME (Teddy, Joey, Gopher, Craig Bolton, Jolly, Mummy?)
Not too often have we let a player go who we underrated. Might've been the case with Jesse, but on the whole, I think our recruiters are in the black with their trades & recruiting.Comment

I was not having a go at our recruiters. I think Jesse would have got to Collingwood regardless of the recruitment of Franklin.
I just feel that the coaching staff always favoured Sam Reid, when Jesse had more God given talent. His talent just required patience, time, and a coach who believed in him. I don't think Longmire believed in him and it was a selection disgrace that Tommy Walsh was favoured to big Jesse. Now Jesse has Buckley and a Collingwood team who appreciate him.Comment

While not questioning your description of the coaches perceptiom of Jessie, Matt80 (you comments are valid).
However, while not wanting to be viewed as a cynic: I find it just a little too coincidental that Jessie"s best form showed up shortly after the club demonstrated that you can't get by on talent - and tried to include him in the Kurt deal.Last edited by Ruck'n'Roll; 23 April 2014, 12:56 PM.Comment
