And when the team is playing cohesive consistent football and you can confidently slip a young player into the team, knowing they can play their role.

You don't do it after a month where half the senior players have barely earned their pay and the team is still struggling to find a system that works and to implement it well from one week to the next.

If a player is genuinely injured and a week off might help - Jack is one who might possibly fall into this category if rumours about his sore ribs are correct - fair enough. But otherwise, we still need far more consistent efforts from almost the whole team. Not time to be taking any other team lightly right now.
The reason I talk about freshening up players over the next two rounds is that we are playing the bottom two clubs, then we play the top two clubs.

The effort and intensity that we brought to the Fremantle game was special. You can't sustain that effort and intensity every week.

You need the same special level of intensity and effort to have a chance of beating Geelong and the Hawks.

We don't need 80 point victories against the Demons and Lions, playing at maximum intensity and tiring your engine room of Kieran Jack, Kennedy, Hanners, Mcveigh, McGlynn and Parker. These guys have to be ready to play at maximum intensity against Geelong and the Hawks midfield or they will kill us.

Against the Demons and Lions you need guys like Jake Lloyd, Brandon Jack, Harry Cunningham and Craig Bird playing at 110% effort and intensity and taking a load of your main midfield guys.

I have proposed using the sub rule over the next two weeks to rest Kennedy and Kiran Jack to have them fresh and ready for Geelong and the a Hawks.

I think the Demons will give us a tough game and we won't be wanting to give our former coach any extra ammunition that might suggest that we are takingthe game lightly.
When the newer players have come into the side, like Cunningham, Lloyd, BJ and Biggs, they showed a lot of energy and have made a positive impact in games. I don't think it's an indication of taking the game lightly. Clarkson played a first gamer (Hallahan) in the Geelong game; I wouldn't think anyone would surmise that the Hawks were taking Geelong lightly.

If Tippett and Reid are ready to go, then they should come in. They are easily in our best 21.

Is the Australian Of The Year a chance to return - as the Sub?

Now Tippett has a cracked rib. Out for another 2 weeks. The guy sure has rotten luck. I was so looking forward to seeing Franklin and Tippett playing together.

And now we know why Naismith didn't play in the ressies cause he tore his medial collateral ligament against Queanbeyan.

              Bummer for Tippett.

Maybe it'll be Reid in Derickx out as the only change.

Plus Lloyd must play the whole game.

The last 3 article titles from the Swans' website:

                Tippett returns
                Tippett confident after return
                Tippett OUT

Well isn't that par for the course.

                    Just read the physiotherapy report.

I would be putting Goodes on that plane to North Queensland to get some controlled match practice in the reserves.

After what happened last year , I would be hesitant to put Reid back in after one Thursday training session. I would give him a full week on the track and have him ready for the Lions.

With Melbourne thinking about playing Jamar with Jake Spencer, the Swans have the option of playing another ruckman to help Pyke.

I think it may be a great opportunity to blood Toby N against weaker opposition. From what I read, he is a reasonable forward, which would give an edge over Tom D.

                    In - Toby N
                    Out - Tom D

With neither Rohan and Mitchell on the injury list, you would have to think they would be in consideration for call up.

Well selections get a little easier, with Tippett out, but still problematic...

If Reid comes in for Derrickx, LRT will have to do the back up ruck work....Not his best role. But he's got a lot more presence, and forward nous, than Derrickx.

I'd be surprised if Goodes comes straight in. They will want to give him specific minutes, which they can manage in the 2's.

Given Reid is only just coming good...It may well be....NO CHANGE.

Or will Mitchell come back in for the unlucky Lloyd ?

Lots of if's, but's and maybe's at the selection table this week.

I don't think Lloyd will be dropped. If Mitchell does come back could B. Jack be the unlucky one. Seeing what happened to Judd I think that Goodes will be managed in the 2's.

My suspicion seeing Judds poor injury is that neither goodes not Reid will play in the seniors.

                            Unchanged is my prediction

Can you imagine the reserves with potentially 3 grand final players in for swans. Goodes Reid and ROK.

I'm with Ludwig and Matt80. Bringing in one or two of our best reserves players is hardly taking things lightly. It is about building a squad of players and taking a season long view to player management. As Matt80 said if we utilise the sub it can work with minimum risk. For this week we give Lloyd a full game whilst jack gives his ribs rest. Robinson comes in and plays 3/4's before kennedy comes on as the sub. Next week biggs and malceski do the same. Etc, etc. Oh and my usual weekly change, Derickz out and Nankervis in

That's bad luck for Tippett, but it's not such a bad thing for the team. It's good if we can stagger the returns of Goodes, Reid and Tippett.
