Round 6 : Changes vs Melb

You have to hazard a guess only Tippett "IN" if the knee is 100% and Lloyd OUT with BJ in as Sub ? OR would you drop Derrickx for Tippett ?

of the INS against Freeo - Birdy played well, BJ looked solid with a very specific role.........Lloyd looked solid also

Laidler is looking comfortable and is allowing Rampe to push up off his man more so then 2013 along with Mal and Shaw

    The balance looks pretty good

Tippett did not ruck at all today. Not sure whether it was planned that he only played one half but I think he needs another run

The next 2 weeks is an opportunity to see a couple of the younger players at senior level. But we also need to get the side gelling together as well, especially the forward line.

Tippett in for Derickx is the obvious one.

I would like to see how Lloyd goes with a full game. I would drop BJ for Biggs.

Out goes BJ. Thought he was our worst player when he was on. Didn't read the play. Lloyd is a far better player at this stage. You would have to say Nankervis will be a better option than Derrickx, but it appears Tippett is ready to go.

Ludwig........given Laidler is on the bench do you think we need Biggs as well ?

we have Laidler, Rampe and Mal setting up play off the HBF and Shaw floating in the HBF area when not tagging

I think the pressure in the forward half is critical and BJ and or Lloyd can do this quite well indeed where as Biggs for me is more a HBF

I think Laidler falls into the 3rd tall category. Hard to say how the tall defenders will evolve over the next couple of years with so much uncertainty with injuries and Ted and LRT both over 30. Laidler is not very quick nor nimble, but reads the play well and is a good kick.

I would like to see Biggs get a few games because he's a 3rd year rookie and is playing well in the reserves. We will have to make a decision about upgrading or delisting him this year. He's more a replacement for Shaw or Mal down the road.

There's a lot to be sorted out with the rookies this year due to the unusual situation of having so many good ones. That's why I would like to see some of them at senior level when the opposition isn't too strong and we don't have to play our very best side. Also a good opportunity to give a couple of senior regulars a rest. I thought Shaw had his best game of the year, but wouldn't mind giving him one day off over the next 2 games and give Biggs a go.

Longmire said in his press conference that it was planned that he'd only play a half. He also gave the impression that KT would definitely be in the seniors next week. And he mentioned Goodesy may also come into consideration.

Goodesy, tremendous athlete that he is, has missed almost a year of football. Surely he can't come back straight into the seniors!

The dust hasn't even settled on today's game and some people are calling for heads to roll. We just beat Fremantle! No change for me unless the coaching staff think KT is ready. May rotate sub just to ensure Lloyd doesn't get the role two weeks in a row.

I think Lloyd had a taste and did fine, and Brandon belongs at this level, but they may rebalance with Tippett and even Goodes coming back in.

Longmire mentioned that the Reserves are playing in Mackay this week! He seemed to suggest that may tip the scales towards him playing in Melbourne. He did mention that Goodesy is a tremendous athlete. He said he'd definitely play somewhere.

                          IN: Tippett, Goodes
                          OUT: Derickx, Lloyd

Rough on Lloyd, but they'll want to keep Jack's pace in the forward 50. Unfortunately, it sounds like Rohan didn't fare too well in the Reserves.

If Goodes was to play, it could only be as the sub surely. That would probably mean Tippett starts and Goodes replaces him in the 4th, assuming no injuries. That's a dangerous tactic for mine and one that the Melbourne coach (I can't recall his name right now) would pick up on very quickly as ammo for the 'They don't rate us, they're using us to nurse injured players back' motivational speech.

Having said that, Lloyd's omission would upset the balance quite a lot if they went that way. It would have to be a tall who went out.
