    Outs: Derickx, Hanners, B Jack.
    Ins: Jones, Pyke, Membrey.

Won't happen, but would love to see Tim Membrey get a game.

Reid to give Pyke a chop out in the ruck.

    Jones to get the vest.

          Down to running costs.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

And all this, in a huge game, with a huge crowd behind him.....Maybe he had a virus. Who knows.

What I think is, he could do with some help this week...... enter Mr Pyke.

I think it is the size of the gifs.
                    Smaller ones work.
I'll have a look at fixing it soon. Work interrupts ATM.

To get back to the subject of the thread it seems that there are are 3 options, 2 with a number of sub-options, for the replacement of Hanners. (Bringing Pyke in is a no-brainer after TD's poor performance on the weekend).

The real issue is how we cover losing Hanners in addition to McGlynn given that our midfield dominance has been due in large part to having a "critical mass" of so many good midfielders in the team at once.

ROK is the simple solution as a straight replacement but is he any better than some of the youth we have?

A direct midfield for midfield replacement would be Zac J, or Robbo, with Robbo raising the issue of rookie elevation. You could also consider an outside chance to be Lockyer or Membrey seeing he has been tried in the middle recently. No easy answers here.

The other option would be to choose a HBF from Biggs or Matty Dick to free up the existing defenders to play in the middle (Smith, Shaw or Rampe all of whom are ex midfielders of some ability). Again the Rookie elevation dilemma is raised by the elevation of Biggs.

I think it is going to come down to the coaches call in terms of whether they think that Zac or Matty are ready for senior football. Otherwise there might be a brave call on the Rookie elevation or the "play it safe" solution of ROK.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!

The other option is to reduce the amount of time Jack and McVeigh play in the forward line, giving them more midfield minutes instead. We have had the luxury of being able to leave them forward for extended periods because Bird and Parker (and McGlynn) have been taking up the 'slack' in the midfield. Bringing in a purer forward option, like Membrey, is therefore another alternative.

Lockyer would be close to no chance, I think. He's been playing "loose man on the wing" in most reserves games I've seen this year. It means his possession counts have looked good on paper but he's not overly creative or penetrating with his ball use, and that position of "loose man on the wing" tends not to exist at senior AFL level.

I may be a sentimental fool, but I think Ryan has earnt the opportunity over his career to get a game or two at senior level to prove himself given Dan's injury.

Mike to come in, but I'd like to keep Derrickx in the side for at least one more game. I guess either Brandon or Gary to go to make way, in theory it's folly because it's a big for a small on a big ground- but it probably allows the closest structure to what our lineup would be with Tippett available. One of the rucks presumably the chap subbed off.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

It would be interesting to know if he's being considered for selection or just mentoring the ressies for the rest of his career.
