The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face. -
And the multiple smothers (though it was a day for smothers)
And the pack busting spoils.
It wasn't the run and carry slotting goals from 50 Rohan, but it was a very good defensive effort.Last edited by Bloody Hell; 29 July 2014, 01:01 AM.The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

Goodsey is a potential match winner(witness unpaid goal square mark) and is very dangerous close to goals. We need him there at all cost! He doesn't have the pace to defend and needs someone of blinding pace to chase his man and outpace their own man. Rohan playing near Goodes might work well and solve the back 6 problem with Shaw replacing Rohan and Lloyd the sub replacing the unlucky Towers?Comment

And both are known for their startling runs out of defence which give their supporters palpitations. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Rampe's form has been recognised by the Coaches as well as RWO.

Laidler is playing like a solid defensive presence - he is playing old fashioned back pocket. Gary is playing like a super quick half back flanker winger.
I suspect that laidler would be playing if the whole list was available. He plays taller than most of our shorts and he and rampe are doing a great job on the mediums.
If you are suggesting dropping him for Rohan then Rohan is going to have to play on the mediums who are generally a bit strong than him. Could work. Might not.
But my response was to the irrelevancy of where they came from before they joined the swans and most of our better players in recent years have been someone else's reject.Comment

It's weird how the final result seems to skew perceptions of players' contributions. I agree that there were more good Hawks than there were good Swans, but given the result was so close (and we dominated for periods) I reckon our best players were more betterer than the bulk of the betterest Hawks. Out of a possible 30 points, the Swans scored just 4! I would have thought that Buddy was at least as good as Roughhead, for instance."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Goodsey's cameo's around goal have been fantastic but he needs help chasing out of our forward 50.
Putting 1, or maybe 2, speedsters in his area could be the solution.

Ok so with Allir Allir on the LTI. Derickkx injured, is it an opportune time to play the Naismith card to ensure we have a backup ruckman? You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby ZieglerComment

I agree Plugger. My real concern with him is that he just doesn?t get the ball enough. He only had 9 possessions for 80% game time. Previous games he has had 14, 8, 3, 5, 8, 9. And those espousing his defensive qualities, he was only credited with 1 tackle. So obviously his other defensive efforts were not effective. People are saying that he will be taking over from Rhyce or Mal. Yet they average around 25 disposals a game. So if he is going to be setting up play from the half back/wing position he needs to start getting the pill more. Even if he was to slot into a half forward position, he will need to be used in a midfield rotation, so if he doesn?t get the ball then he will not be effective. Look I?m not bagging him, but cautiously optimistic.Comment

I would not move Rohan from the backline. Let his confidence keep developing in this position.
Tippett will be fitter for the run and will apply more pressure next round. Goodes needs to lift his defensive work by 10%. He would know this.
With Hanners coming back into the midfield, Mglynn will spend more time up forward and apply more forward pressure.
Lloyd needs to increase his forward pressure by 10%. There is always the option to bring Towers into the forward line and move Lloyd to sub. Towers needs to provide huge amounts of forward pressure if he starts.Comment

I believe the forward line missed B. Jacks electric pace, chasing, pressure and tackles. This work helps create opportunities for others and locks the ball in. I don?t know who you will drop to utilise B. Jacks pressure.

Hopefully that's not a decline but either a tactic (or miscalculation) - a few things we did had me thinking that we weren't letting Clarko know what we'd do come finals.Comment
