I think he may be getting on the running tracks and getting his legs used to 10km+ regularly.
    Plus some weights.

Naismith was up against it though...big Ivan played like a man posessed. Naismith's error's were purely nerves, not lack of ability. The poor bugger probably hadn't slept since Thursday no wonder he was cramping up.

Can't believe the negative comments about Naismith. Considering his limited time in the reserves this year, his obvious first game nerves early in the game and coming up against the form ruckman of the moment, I think he did well. He improved as the game went on, and while he did miss his handball targets he was outdone on that score by a number of well seasoned teammates.

He would be the first debut player in a long time who was expected to be the number one, rather than the second string, ruckman.

        Give the kid a break.

I don't think it's unnecessarily harsh to say that, based on his potential and reserve form, he performed below expectations and was generally disappointing.

Given Longmire's unenthusiastic response at the press conference afterwards, I think he probably would agree.

He performed well below expectation and deserves criticism. Doesn't mean we throw him on the scrap heap. I believe he will turn in a good ruckman.

+1, I must agree with this. Amount of noise some people were making in the past to have him included in the team was staggering and yet it was a total anticlimax in the end. Lesson learned.

I am so hoping that Saturday's game was an aberration! Taking into account we didn't have Buddy or a competitive ruckman, the delivery into the forward line and disposals in general were not worthy of a team that finished on top of the ladder. Most disconcerting was that it was not the young players only who were making non top-team standard deliveries. There were so many opportunities to win that game - it was like watching Melbourne!!!

I did love the games of Rampe and Rohan and as usual Parks. I thought Sam Reid too showed a little more of what a fine/valuable player he is on the way to becoming.

Yes, it crossed my mind as well and on Saturday I was like, no way I'm going to the game next Saturday if they play like this, but eventually I've cooled down and decided to go anyway and hope for the best.

I wonder how many RedandWhiteOnLiners might be rethinking the savagery of their attacks on Derickz earlier in the year. Naismith is a work in progress to be sure, and will come good; Derickz did an amazing job as the team got on its roll against some first class opponents. Clooking forward to a big season from him next year.

I think as well O'reilly, many (not necessarily on RWO) should rethink their criticism on Pyke as well. Saw many a facebook post about 'Pyke is over it - we don't need him - Naismith/dericx/Nankervis can do the job' - saturday showed how without Pyke, we don't have a rats chance of winning the flag.

                        Count me out.

In the first quarter I thought Naismith was not as good as Derickx. But he got a bit more adjusted to the pace and quality of AFL level after that and thought he surpassed Derickx by the time he came off in the third. He needs some work to build up his strength.

You must have been at a different game. Derrickx is a long long way ahead of Naismith. And without Mike and Joey, we will be playing catch up and will not be 2014 Premiers.

At least with Derrickx, he quite well had worked out how to most effectively use his body to best effect - whereas Naismith doesn't have the body to do so.

If Pyke goes down, our best bet may very well be to all but concede the ruck - as Naismith or Nankervis are both going to struggle big time if they need to be called on. I still think however if Pyke goes, our hopes go with him.

Stay well, our mighty fine Canadian-Australian, ex-rugby playing ruckman

Naismith was good with the tap work, but had a shocker around the ground.

Will fire up in the off season.
