A roof will make many of the red-zone issues at ANZ disappear. Greater atmosphere, Greater noise, greater comfort.

An AFL ground with a roof in Sydney is a thing to be celebrated. Can you imagine the SCG Trust ever approving a roof? Heaven forbid. The SCG is a cricket ground first and foremost. And cricket grounds dont have roofs.
It must be an amazing @@@@ing roof if it can manage to solve the main gripe people have with the red zone at anz - the appalling sight lines! The roof might mean I wont get wet, but it wont fix the sight lines, or the crappy angles of the seating or the lack of atmosphere.

just accept it barry, not everyone has to love and want to marry ANZ Stadium like you do

The MCG is pure Magic. I love it every time I'm there. Close to the city, modern, historical and amazing. Never move the grand final from there.

Etihad stadium is a magnificent arena. Not a bad seat in the house, as you virtually hang over the playing area. MCG great as well, as is the SCG. ANZ? Been there twice and thought it was very ordinary. Obviously was designed for the Olympics and the track and field but the grandstands are too raked away from the playing surface. That was what killed Waverley and why the newest stand at AAMI park in Adelaide was a failure. Grandstands need to go up, not out and away from the action.

                Two things :
                1. I actually think the roof will help the atmosphere issue. No matter how big a crowd there is at ANZ , it doesnt seem to keep the noise in the stadium like the SCG.

                2. I do like the idea of a 4.40 game there as it means you are out before the cold descends at about 9pm as it seems to every time I go out there.

But at the end of the day and given a choice I prefer the SCG (actually thats three things).

I've only been to Etihad once but I too thought it was great. I had a really good, up-close view of the footy. And I always feel relieved when the Swans are scheduled to play there when the forecast is for bad weather in Melbourne, given our propensity to play badly in the wet.

So I am puzzled, why do so many people (including many Melbourne footy fans) seem to hate Etihad?

Etihad is great viewing but the G is the G , and the Richmond area is much better for pre or post game drinks. Still both great arenas though, we're lucky down here. AAMI park is a little belter to for the rugby

Surely you jest? You would have to be in the minority there as I'm sure most people would agree the MCG is a wonderful venue and I struggle to think of a negative. Best major sporting venue in the country (very closely followed by The Gabba), and I think I've been to all of them.

No, I find MCG too big, almost soulless. Too many collingwood supporters there :P I love the intimacy of the SCG, I think it is 10 times better as a venue. I don't mind being in the minority, I just don't like it and I am happy with that. Maybe my experience is coloured by some rabid Hawthorn supporters at the qualifying final last year, but that really ruined it for me.

ANZ swans members bar is a serious redeemer of the venue. Full-strength beer? Shorter queues? Better food? Yes thanks

Its trendy to hate newer stadiums like etihad or ANZ.

ANZ ticks a lot of boxes and will be much better with a roof... but haters gotta hate because a few jim bobs dont like the cheap seats in red zone.

You seem determined to have the last word Barry can't we all agree to disagree.
Both venues have attributes in their favour but as an interstate visitor to Sydney getting to the western venue is a lot harder, it's lacking in transport and entertainment infrastructure and to me lacks atmosphere.
That's my opinion and none of your pseudo facts or offensive and snide comments will alter that.
