I know every minute I spend on BigFooty is a wasted minute but that Swans v Freo thread on the general AFL discussion board is ridiculous. Hawthorn and Freo supporters both saying we didn't play well at all and that we didn't deserve to win etc. etc. Surprisingly it's Geelong supporters and other Melb based clubs sticking up for us. The hate from West Coast and Adelaide fans is really quite surprising but I guess it has to do with how easily we beat West Coast these days and the fact that Tippo is wearing red and white instead of that horrid Adelaide tri-colour.

I agree . I thought we were in control for large parts of the game and would have been very unlucky to lose. The good thing is that there were plenty of minor errors that can be easily fixed and yet we won by 24 points.

If Grundy had dived at Pavlich's feet and the ball Goalkeeper style, would he have been penalised under the Gary Rohan rule?

Always a tough call to predict.
There was one in the game that went against the player on the ground.

If reg had gone for a genuine smothering attempt he should not have been penalised.

The swans players thought they had it covered. Pavlich just popped up with a lucky toe in the right place at the right time.

Pav is damn clever so I don't think it was luck.

But I think he lacks the game-winning mongrel that Buddy has. I expect Buddy to lift and I expect Pav to miss the vital ones. It doesn't always work out that way but it's certainly the trend I've observed.

While we're all having a whinge and filling in the next couple of weeks.......what WAS dear Goodesy thinking, when he faffed around in front of the goal-posts in the first quarter? And didn't kick the ball? In all of my 56 footy watching years, I don't think I've EVER been so astounded.

What about when we played Richmond at the MCG and Goodes handballed to Pyke who wasn't even looking ??????

That was bizarre by Goodes - he licked a harder set shot later but he was only about 30 out and directly in front. I'm guessing nerves but he generally doesn't exhibit them. So maybe he had a problem with his kicking leg that he didn't want to exacerbate??

Nice work Go Swannies...At first I thought the 'keys' you were talking about were, 'key forwards'...I was going to agree with you!

As for Goodsey, I think it was more of a 'seniors brain fade', than protecting the leg.

When he has time to think, he seems to have these moments. Generally whilst trying to do the team thing.

So Ballantyne broke his jaw during the game. Was that when he was helped off the ground? I hope it was when he went to ground trying to grub his way into a free kick. He did try to play the tough guy and came off second best once or twice too.

A horrible practice gloating when a player gets injured, but if there was ever a player deserving of an injury during the finals its him.

Or given that he goes AWOL in finals, maybe its better he plays and the pressure builds.
