All the hype around Petracca reminds me a bit of the hype around Membrey 2 years ago. Membrey was touted as a possible late 1st round pick, but apparently there were some doubts about his aerobic capacity and how much room for improvement he had given he already had a big body. The big bodied midfielder is a bit more in vogue this year, hence Petracca's meteoric rise to the top of the draft heap.
Petracca has steadily moved up in the draft calculus partially due to his increasing role in the midfield, something that Membrey didn't do. Petracca is now 92kgs and will likely have to trim down a bit to help with his aerobic capacity. He will most likely end up with a similar body size to Membrey unless they want him to be a full time inside mid. As a forward, I think Membrey actually shows more talent. They are both strong marks, but I think Membrey is quicker on the burst and is a better kick.
Those outside the club don't understand the young talent that we already have on the list. IMO we already have a Petracca type player in Membrey. We should treat him like he's a 1st round pick and make sure we have a spot for him in our side next season. Perhaps one day he will take the ROK route and become a very good inside mid.
I though we were a better contested ball and clearance side than we actually are. I think Tom Mitchell is the answer to fix this deficit. It's not a big deficit mind you. But added to JPK and Parks, I think we will have a very strong inside game next year. I also wouldn't underestimate the abilities of both Hewett and Jones. Both will be physically very solid with strong ball winning ability. We've got the well balance Heeney joining this year and a Petracca type player in Dunkley next.
I very much believe that we are heading for stoppage and contested ball dominance over the coming years. We really don't need to trade in any new midfielders.Comment

Every club thinks their ressies are the bees knees. I've basically concluded that unless players dominate the neafl they will just be players. I think towers membrey jones Mitchell can all make it afl level. The question is whether they can make our team stronger. That means replacing goodes shaw mal etcComment

The 3.00km and Beep test will be interesting. If he can clock level 15 in the beep, then we need to stop at nothing to have him. That is Jake Jimmy Lloyds beep result.Comment

Petracca clocked 3.00 for the 20m, which is pretty good, but not electric. He came forth in the vertical jump, which is fantastic.

Next years number 1 might be rated the same - do we stop at nothing then ?
When does it all end ?Comment

Matt, I have nothing against your posting, but why do we stop at nothing. Do you really think the seventeen other clubs will be stuffed if they don't get this one kid based on a beep test ? Hyperbole.

He has decent speed to break from stoppages. If he has an engine like Lloyd then we have a potential four quarter game breaker. He can also play forward and take strong over head marks. That is John Longmire versatility.Comment

We still don't know about Malceski, Membrey, Goodes and Shaw who are all out of contract.
We could be looking at nine departures.
I think at this stage that Malceski will activate free agency and Shaw is more likely to retire than Goodes.
The futures of Goodes and Membrey are linked. The club probably won't be able to retain both and will have to choose.
The additions to the senior list are
- X Richards upgraded
- We don't know yet whether Lloyd, Naismith or Biggs will be upgraded.
- We have to take at least two in the November draft.
- There will probably be room for one or two players to join the club via trade or delisted free agents.
Is the above analysis correct Liz, Ugg , Ludwig?Comment

I'm very impressed with the tone in RWO when discussing Eski's imminent departure. We are all grateful of his service and wishing him all the best in the future. I also suspect that he will be applauded by Swans fans when we play against him in future. This is such a far cry from the supporters of other clubs."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment
