Essendon are imploding as we speak. Hird faces an uncertain board meeting tomorrow, Thompson is in the running for the Gold Coast job and Simon Goodwin has gone to Melbourne.

Is it time to think again about a Carlisle or Hurley for a KPD post?

Carlisle maybe, but please not Hurley. Hurley is both a complete flog and massively overrated.

Do we have 'the edge', in terms of real grunt and leadership.

Geelong is driven by Selwood, Hawthorn by Hodge, should Freo give it to Fyfe? For the Swans JPK, Hannebery or Parker, Buddy has the edge but probably not captain. I can't see anything from McVeigh or Jack this year in the GF after great games in 2012 GF. Our edge in 2012 was tackling with O'Keefe 15, Jack 9, McVeigh 9, Bolton 7, and LRT smashed Hodge on the wing. GF 2014, our captains Jack 4 and McVeigh 1, I know it was hard with the whole team but needed a leader. Do we have 'the edge' our do we need to go and get it?

Fox sports are reporting that Goodes has told the club he will play on and announce it officially at the B&F

Apparently Winderlich will play on and is looking for a new home.

Huh? I thought Essendon were desperately trying to convince him to play for another year - but for them. Why would he be looking to play somewhere else? Are things really imploding at Windy Hill?

I should've clarified. It was posted on one of those notorious rumours pages as reported by someone on 3AW ( Sam Maclure?)

I wish I could take issue with this. But I can't.

I hope this isn't a really monumental mistake- he was a liability in any circumstances other than when ball was in our hands. I hope with a pre season and fire in the belly and no aoty responsibilities things will be different next season, but I really doubt it.

Excellent post. I think Luke Parker is nearly there...

Manage his training like we did Micky O
Play him as an instant impact versatile sub
Play him deep forward (allowing for his opportunistic goals & piddly kicks) taking the 3rd or 4th defender
Play Sammy at CHB & Membrey as a forward

.... I think we have room for a Goodsey who wants to go one more time ... he might not play every week, but there is a role for him IMO

Goodes is a legend of the club and loved by all swans fans but I can't help thinking that the club needs to make the hard call and put him out to retire. With him staying on one more year puts a hold on developing another younger player like a Membrey or possibly Heeney as a half forward player and will more than likely mean that we will lose the former this off season for more opportunity elsewhere. Goodes had a pretty good year and will probably help us in another push for a flag next year but will his playing on hurt us for future years???

Was probably in our top 5 over the last 2 weeks, still think he has something to offer

Goodes stays. Membrey goes. Simple as that

I don't like the thought of losing Membrey at all, but based on Goodes' last 5-6 weeks of football he could have a decent year next year. He's looked to have rediscovered some pace and run. He is a liability defensively though. And I really don't wan to lose Membrey.
