I am trying to understand the thinking concerning Membrey because so many of us (myself included) rated him quite highly, especially given his goal kicking prowess. His NEAFL performances would have put him ahead of Towers, but as it turned out it was Towers that got most of the chances. One possibility is that Membrey's departure was known for a long time and perhaps the one game he got was just to show him off for trade purposes. There was a lot of hype about Veszpremi when he showed so much promise in his first year, but eventually faded out, first with us and then with the Bulldogs. Maybe Membrey is in the same mould. There are obviously some things we just don't know about this situation.
We were lucky to get Tom Mitchell as a FS selection, otherwise the 2011 and 2012 National Drafts are not looking that good. I suppose we decided to hang on to Marsh for another season, although I think there is a lot of work to do on his disposal. Hopefully Towers will continue his development and make the grade.
Fortunately recent rookie drafts have been strong. Perhaps it's a positive sign for Dan Robinson that his name was not included with the initial departures.
I hope the Swans management team have a better idea about where we are going than I do.Comment

Dean Towers got the nod ahead of a Membrey because Membrey is a forward and our forward line was packed with four talls. He is not versatile in terms of playing alternative positions and there were concerns about his endurance and defensive aspects of his game.
I highly doubt that he was played to add to his trade value but rather to test if he could offer more than just his goal kicking.Comment

Yep. He scored in the top 10 on the repeat sprints too - showing a combination of speed and endurance. He is a year over age (ie he's 19) and I believe he was a high level performer in junior athletics before deciding to concentrate on football. If he makes it through the ND I can't see why the Swans wouldn't rookie him. They might not even take the risk of him falling that far and nominate him for the ND.Comment

I'm interested to see how our List Managers approach this off season more than any other. I still think our current squad can win the flag next year without too many changes (mostly positional). But with Port, Cats and Hawks all set to land big recruits we may be forced to. Will be interesting to see how it pans out!Comment

It would however potentially give us 4 draft picks at end of the 1st/start 2nd rd (assuming Mal goes and we get end of Rd 1 Pick). That would give us flexibility to get a nice influx of young guys, or to potentially seek an agressive trade for someone else."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

If that's so, he's dreaming.
25 plus a player (not sure who we would want, that they don't)
More likely he stays and becomes an excellent KPD!!Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment
