Every year it amazes me how clubs over-rate their draft picks when trading. Tom Mitchell was rated 2-5 a couple of years ago and has proven to be as good as everyone hoped (but injury plagued)...so surely to God he is worth pick one on his own. If he were in the draft he would probably go there. Did I hear some idiot say we should offer him AND Reid for Petracca? What a joke! Reid would fetch a top 10 pick at least on the open market...ON HIS OWN. As for Parker....only 21 and rated by Mike Sheehan as 15th best player in the league (higher than Dangerfield) do he would be worth picks 1 AND 2 at least. Crows rightly laughed at picks 2 and 3 for Dangerfield.

Maybe 3 out of every 10 top ten picks really make it (to AA level). Even with single digit draft picks it is still a crap shoot.

Membrey has proven he is every bit as good as he was touted to be. If you are a team with a hole in that position he is worth a teen pick to you.

Looking forward to some sane suggestions from trade radio etc....not gonna happen.

Let's be honest, if the club rated Membrey as highly as we did they would have found a way to keep him.

In recent times there's not many players from the Swans who have gone elsewhere to seek more opportunities that have prospered. Jesse White, Lewis Johnston, Jed Lamb etc.

We need to show some faith in the recruitment and development team....they dont get it wrong very often.

I can only imagine that our coaching staff didn't rate Membrey as highly as I do (as well as many others). You just don't let a high quality player go so easily because you can't provide playing opportunities for him.
A medium forward like Membrey is not part of the Swans forward / midfield strategy. Apart from Goodes, Tippett, Reid and Buddy the other small medium forwards are midfield rotations. Membrey unlike Petracca a similar sized player has not demonstrated a midfield rotation capability. Having said that Buddy can play wing, Kurt can play ruck and Goodes can still go into the middle.

I don't believe the medium and small forward strategy should be changed. McVeigh, K.Jack and Kennedy can be very handy small / medium forwards in the latter part of their careers. It's gives Longmire more flexibility.

At least the National Draft will be a bit more interesting for us now...after Heeney at 17 we could have pick 18 (Malceski) 36, 37ish (Membrey) and there's no reason we can't get another gem at 55 like AJ.

Except for that homeless guy who is now a premiership player.

Spangher was delisted as opposed to traded wasn't he? I can't recall.

"The Sun Herald reporting that Swans Tim Membrey has asked for a trade back home to Victoria". I rate Tim, and forwards take time, but GOODES is a legend, and came up for a AFL Mid North Coast Juniors dinner, with JPK, Lewis Johnston and one other, sorry I can't remember the name, and seat next to my son and was just so much class for the night. I still rate Adam as even a better person then a player but can the team carry Adam for probably for 6-8 good games, can't turn without the posterior cruciate ligaments, too top heavy in the forward line and haven't had a "true" small forward since "Robbie Ahmat" and Robbie was only OK. In 2012 our midfielders kicked plenty Jetta 45, McGlynn 30, JPK, 29, Jack 27, Bolton 23, OKeefe 20, McVeigh 18, Bird 12 & Hannebery 10 (more then 10 = total 194). After trading for Tippett and Buddy things changed in 2014 our midfielders lost plenty with Parker 25, McGlynn 24, Jack 18, McVeigh & Cunningham 15 each, Jetta 14, JPK 13 (total =124). 70 goals gone, Buddy will get plenty but very predictable going forward. I though the Swans would keep Tim but obviously they don't rate him or don't need any more forwards!

or Membs could have done a Tippett, signed for a couple of years & then gone. Sliding doors

                      Yeah, delisted.

Terrible news regarding Membrey. I think he'll do well at another club and it will hurt to watch.

Say what you like about Geelong but they are pretty unsentimental about pushing out older players who can "still contribute" (Podsiadly, Chapman) to make room for fresh blood.

I can't see us getting a tier one compensation pick. That is what the Hawks got for Buddy.

Tier 2 (end of first round) is the absolute best we could hope for, and that would depend on contract duration and money offered. In reality there wouldn't be much difference between tier 1 and tier 2, given where we finished on the ladder. But I suspect tier 3 (end of second round) is far more likely. Might even get just tier 4, given his age.

                          Membrey! Burnnnnnnnnnnnss

i have faith in them, but i thought he could make it. Though buddy coming in after tippet, reid staying on (by the looks of it) means he is squeezed out with or without Goodes (he just puts the last nail in.)

On Membrey - He is like Lewis Johnston. Too small to be a KPP and too slow to go into the midfield. 188 cm is about the worst height you can be in footy unless you have incredible endurance and ball winning ability. I think he will turn out a bit like TDL. Kick a few goals in the ressies and look good in the seniors until the opposition work him out. Don't forget he was subbed out in his first game after he caught everyone by surprise in the first quarter or so.

Why the talk about Reid being traded now it has been revealed he has been carrying a knee for the last 9 weeks of the season and requires surgery. It shows how valued he is by the club when they see him as more valuable on one leg compared with any alternatives.

                              Membrey

So, it could've happened differently but this morning I saw an article explaining Membrey wants a trade to a Victorian club.

Right after that I saw an article explaining Goodes wants another year.

Do you think Membrey saw Goodes' retirement as his spot in the 22?

A lot of us agree that he would've been a decent replacement in the forward line.

Or do you think this was his plan anyway?

I liked Membrey and the potential he had, sad to see him go really. All the best for the future!

Just please not at Carlton or Collingwood! Haha

wipe your chin, your dribbling. Mooney won a medal without touching the ball, Bevan earned his spot and had 5 of the finest, including 2 more touches than NOG.
