Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun. Blessedare the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
Thanks for confirming this. It's wonderful news. Hiscox played for my junior club and its exciting to know that Glebe will have its first AFL listed player come Monday and will most likely be a Swan.
I haven't been too taken with Abe Davis in the few NEAFL games he's played, but many draft watchers, including Emma Quayle, are quite impressed with him. Obviously our list managers feel he's got potential to make it. He has all the physical attributes and can take a strong mark. His kicking is good as well. He could be as important as Heeney to us in this year's draft, just because of our need to bolster our depleted KPP stocks.
Showing a preference for Towers over Membrey, and now the preselection nomination of the athletic Hiscox may be some indication of the where Horse thinks the game is headed. We are really showing a preference for speed and endurance. It seems that we will be looking to outdo Port in the area.
According to the brief notes on the AFL website, Mal's manager has been on trade radio and says Mal wants to stay at the Swans but the money is an issue. I wonder how far apart they are? Would love it if he can be accommodated at the Swans next year.

Maybe you haven't seen his hair?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
The first thing to remember is that this process takes place before any other player transfers, so it is the indicative initial draft positions that are in play.
It's not all that complicated. If someone bids for one of our nominated players, we can outbid that club by committing our next available draft pick; if we choose not to commit that draft pick, the club that bid for the player must use that draft pick bid to take the player in the national draft. If no club bids for a player, we are committed, by dint of our nomination, to take that player with our final pick in the national draft; the player cannot go through to the rookie draft.
For this interpretation the term available draft pick means the next pick after giving affect to previous picks already committed to nominated players.
We cannot be prevented from taking all 3 nominated players if we want them.
So if there are no bids in the second and third rounds for Davis and Hiscox we can use the 2nd and 3rd rounds to draft other players? We may also have extra draft picks for Malceski and Membrey.
We are looking like having 8 list changes at this stage:
ROK
LRT
Walsh
Dick
Lockyer
Membrey
Malceski
Maybe Shaw
If we don't bring any other players in we could be looking at 5 November draft picks and 3 rookie upgrades? Could that make our depth too young with too many first and second year players?

I wonder how much it's annual salary as the difference, or if it's an extra year on offer from Gold Coast- I fear it's the latter and we won't budge on a third year.

From the article on the AFL website:
The major sticking point in securing the 30-year-old All Australian is the length of contract, more than the money involved.
My guess is that it's the guarantee of a 3rd year. Maybe we could offer an option for the 3rd year based on how many games he plays in his second year of a new contract. I hope we can work out something.
Just read the article on Heeney only having two interviews (Swans and St Kilda).
Can November draftees nominate their signing price?
Can another club try and convince him not be taken as an Academy player? Can a St Kilda say to him that they will offer a five year $500,000 a year contract straight after the draft if he rejects the Swans academy? That would be more money than your standard two year draft contract?

Add Pat Mitchell to that list (the american Rookie).
A few more and Nicmal can stay.

Wow pat mitchell is returning home... That didn't last long.
I saw nothing, in my limited watching of the ressies this season, to suggest he was ever going to get close to becoming an AFL standard player. Worth a try for the club, but he never looked likely.
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

That's good news. He was pretty much a waste of space. I wonder if we will look to sign up another international; maybe one of the 2 Americans who did so well in the combine.
