"ST KILDA will seek the AFL's permission for Tim Membrey to start pre-season training with the club before he officially becomes a Saint on December 3."
I say bad luck. They had the opportunity to trade for him but chose not to and pick him up in the PSD. They should wear thd consequences for that. You can't have your cake and eat it to.Comment

In any case, there would really be no benefit to anyone to deny Membrey the right to train with a club that is committed to taking him, It would just be out of spite, and wouldn't leave Membrey with a good taste in his mouth on leaving the club. Unlike some other clubs, the Swans are one that has always handled departing players with grace and dignity. There's no real reason to change that in this instance.Comment

Marsh is exactly the type of defender that Hawthorn would recruit and develop
He is a very very sharp long kick and if you compare a Suckling who i watched as little as a junior........I can 100% guarantee you Suckling never had the mark that Marsh has nor the aggressive one on one style Marsh can play in defence but both equal in kicking at similar age
sometimes we can have a picture slightly distorted ie we may not have seen a Suckling develop and then suddenly go this kick can play....... ie Marsh in a team like the Swans and or the Hawks could go strength to strength if he wants it bad enough and or if injuries opened up an opportunity like Rampe or AJ in 2012 for that matter
Timing is a massive factor and anyone who makes it generally acknowledges timing as a factor equal to attitude, cardio and skill
Kirky another with the arrival of Roos as head coach
My question for Swampy after hearing all the Snr players urging him on last pre season and demanding more from him and lets be honest talking him up as the most potential etc .........well lets put it simply it is all before Swampy !!!!
if he wants a back spot he will have to fight tooth and nail and if he wants to become a midfield player he will also have to fight tooth and nail........but that is the Bloods way.......you get in the door if you have potential and then it is up to you !!!!...........between the ears can be mile long sometimes
its time to take the leap Swampy into a realm of pre season time trials and beyond !!!........earn the respect thru pushing yourself to the limits my friend.........i have gone out on a limb with Harrison because he has that build and style of game that shouts out Snr Footballer but he needs to impose himself more as he phases in and out

While I understand the sentiment, I am not sure that denying the Saints' request is within the Swans' power. Don't contracts expire on 31 October? If so, Membrey is no longer under any kind of Swans' control after that date.

I agree. We have X-R and Aliir coming through. We need a stop gap for a few years until they are ready.Comment

Sorry Liz but the club did the right thing by St Kilda and the Saints decided to play hard-ball and get him for nothing. a player is only allowed to train with a club if he is drafted or traded to them. That @@@@@ Pelchen always looks to get players via the preseason draft. He is a mongrel. Nobody deals with him & feels comfortable. They might think they are getting a good deal but then again he is the bloke that is responsible for Maister being at Saints and so many like him. Gee guess what Membrey is the same height, same weight! WOW
Regardless, my point is that there is no reason other than spite for the Swans to try to object to Membrey training with Saints. It helps no-one and just makes the club look petty.
Of course, if the club feels inclined to make a further pitch to Membrey to stay in Sydney between now and the end of the month, they are perfectly within their rights to do so. But I can't see them offering him a three year contract, which is reportedly what the Saints have done (somewhat surprisingly, given he's played half a senior game in two years) and thus it seems unlikely he'd change his mind.Comment

makes sense to me
with Goodes retiring most likely end of 2015 and Teddy maybe 2015 or 2016
Reid will play more in the forwards especially then and who knows if we will keep Tippett end of 2016 so having another tall in the mix around 23 or 24 yrs of age makes sense

St Kilda are a bottom feeder and I'll bet the AFL give Membrey permission to train, as a little leg up.
My issue is, like others, if St Kilda wanted him to start training in November, then they needed to do a trade.
This is one small incentive, to stop the Pelchens of this world from being unreasonable.
In choosing not to trade, they have forfeited the chance of Membrey joining their club in November. That's the rules.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Just wondering whether we should go for a KD or Ruckman in the draft, and whether we should try for a mature aged player who can hit the ground running?
The premiership window closes with an injury to Pyke IMO and he may not have long to go. Both he and Tippett have dodgy knees.
Almost as scary, but probably not quite so critical if you are winning the clearances is the prospect of Ted getting injured or retiring, but do we have heir apparents in XR and Aliir, as compared to the heir apparents of Naismith and Nanka in the ruck?
Would it come down to the best available regardless of which of the 2 is more critical?
I am now favouring the ruck option, other things being equal. We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!Comment
