If Membrey started training with the Saints before the pre-season draft and did an ACL, could the Saints decide not to take him in the pre-season draft and deny him medical care.
I think Tim and his manager should be very clear before Tim starts training.

I don't think we will take another surely.Just wondering whether we should go for a KD or Ruckman in the draft, and whether we should try for a mature aged player who can hit the ground running?
The premiership window closes with an injury to Pyke IMO and he may not have long to go. Both he and Tippett have dodgy knees.
Almost as scary, but probably not quite so critical if you are winning the clearances is the prospect of Ted getting injured or retiring, but do we have heir apparents in XR and Aliir, as compared to the heir apparents of Naismith and Nanka in the ruck?
Would it come down to the best available regardless of which of the 2 is more critical?
I am now favouring the ruck option, other things being equal.
Surely it'll be another KPD we target, or perhaps a Small Forward? We have Derickx, Naismith and possible Nankervis in the wings to support Pyke. Its clearly a huge risk in that area 0 but as you've identified I think we are, at this stage, even weaker in KPD."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Ah yes, the rules. Would they be the AFL rules for the 17 other teams in the competition, or the AFL rules for the Sydney Swans?
My issue is, like others, if St Kilda wanted him to start training in November, then they needed to do a trade.
This is one small incentive, to stop the Pelchens of this world from being unreasonable.
In choosing not to trade, they have forfeited the chance of Membrey joining their club in November. That's the rules."Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the Swans win pretty."Comment

Good point. Didn't think of that. I would imagine that there would be some sort of condition they would need to agree to before being allowed to train with them. They would have to take on the Workcover responsibilities for example I would imagine. If Membrey started training with the Saints before the pre-season draft and did an ACL, could the Saints decide not to take him in the pre-season draft and deny him medical care.

I too am getting brutally beaten up by a 7ft3" giant of a man who calls himself 'The Irony'. The 2012 'weaker' team that wasn't supposed to win the grand final had the best ruck combination and defensive unit going around, and now the 'superstar' 'powerhouse' team totally sucks in those divisions.I don't think we will take another surely.

I'm not going to argue that our ruck is clearly weaker - but our defense still did a pretty good job last season - harsh to say that we 'totally suck' in regards to that.I too am getting brutally beaten up by a 7ft3" giant of a man who calls himself 'The Irony'. That may sound harsh, but in reality a 10 goal GF flogging means the defence totally sucks, even with Malceski."Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the Swans win pretty."Comment

You could have had the AFL team of the century defence out there on Grand Final day and they still would have got flogged.
The problem was not with the defence - not being able to win any ball in the midfield was where the grand final was won and lost. Of course the Defence didn't have a good day, but you can hardly expect them to do so when it was consistent, one way traffic out of the middle, time and time and time again with excellent, pinpoint delivery, made under often zero per cent pressure. They were sold up a creek without a boat by the midfield, and even the very best defence will crack under such a situation.
Going on your logic, we suck everywhere and should replace the whole team just because of the grand final day disaster....."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

We suck at centre clearances. The defence gets bombarded every week with quick forward entries and stands up admirably. Teddy to Reg; "strewth not again. Action stations".
Unfortunately a lot of people can't see the real picture. Our midfield doesn't get beaten in the strict sense, but boy we are woeful at centre clearances.Comment

We used to be the kings of clearances and contested footy. Would this be Dew to anyone in particular? Just asking. We suck at centre clearances. The defence gets bombarded every week with quick forward entries and stands up admirably. Teddy to Reg; "strewth not again. Action stations".

Yes I knew the midfield was going to be the theme of the responses to this, and this is correct to an extent. Best I can say is that it was so woeful across the board that it's hard to tell. But getting the ball out of the defensive 50 was totally without strategy, pressure withstanding.
By the way, why did everyone get angry with Jescinta when she simply said the same thing that everyone is saying here about the midfield? I consider it a factual statement. So what's wrong with factual statements? One thing I know about society is that society HATES hearing the truth, on a very long list of topics. Society has been conditioned to respond with fact-barren, emotionally-charged and often aggressive responses when the desired false paradigm is threatened.

Sitting directly behind the goals on GF day made the picture very clear in regards to our centre clearance work. It was just terrible. We suck at centre clearances.
