Given the Essendon situation and a strong possibility that some or all of the players will sue the club for damages, should we be cultivating the idea of luring one of their 2 top defenders to the Swans. I think Hooker is out of contract and a free agent this year and Hurley is a gun defender who can also go forward. If the players have an open lawsuit against the club it would imagine that it will be difficult for them to play for them next year under such acrimonious conditions. There may also be the possibility that any of the suspended players could quit the club regardless of their contract status. I'm sure many of these questions will be discussed and clarified in the weeks to come.
But specifically as it pertains to the Swans, most on this forum would regard our key defender position as the weakest link in the team atm. It may well turn out that Xav Richards, Aliir and Melican all have good years and Talia steps up to fill the spot that will be vacated by Ted in due course and the need for a gun key defender won't be required. But once the legal situation with Essendon clarifies, it wouldn't hurt talking to Hurley and Hooker's managers to gauge their availability for 2017.Comment

Interesting idea - picking up a key defender from Essendon

He left for more regular footy at a club where he was in the best 22. He got it, and how. Does anyone else feel the world's wildest conspiracy theory coming on? I mean, really, if you dig hard enough, who was it who planted the idea in Bomber Thompson's head to hire The Weapon? The whole Marn Grook trophy thing provided Craig with the opportunity for socialising time with Thompson on the ground after the games. Which city do you pretty much fly over to get from the Gold Coast to Essendon? Join the dots, people: under that mild-mannered exterior... Craig 'Keyser Soze' Bird.Comment

Comprehensively fails the No Dickheads policy, and massively overrated to boot. Don't want him (unless assaulting reed-thin cab drivers suddenly becomes a required skill, in which case he's certainly the go-to guy).My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

Definitely not true....thay have not been delisted, they are no free agents. They are under contract and still being paid. But it stands to reason that any court in the land would let them walk away from their contracts if they were prepared to go to court....not to mention that if, say, Michael Hurley said "I hate you guys, trade me or de-list me now," then it is unlikely the Bombers would go to court to force him to play for them. But then Bomber management haven't made one, single, good, rational decision for nearly 5 years so you never know."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment
