Can't believe anybody is surprised if this comes off for the Hawks they are a great club on and off the field - who was the last good young player we gave up along with a 1st round pick to get in a player in ?- I remember us using picks but never including a good young player ? maybe next year !!Comment

This isn't free agency, the Hawks have just been able to construct a deal. No surprise they are the club of choice for Melbourne players and they have a salary structure capped at about $700,000 that eally allows a deep talent pool.
The thing that annoys me though is that when are a club of choice then we get punishedComment

The Swans should contact Curtly Hampton's manager and find out if he's still got his heart set on moving to Adelaide (the town, where I understand he has family links) or if he actually quite likes Sydney (the city). His reason for looking for a trade (other than maybe the location issue) was supposedly to get more senior opportunities. The Crows already seemed reasonably well stocked with half-back flankers (eg Brodie Smith) and now they've recruited Seedsman. If Hampton wants to maximise his opportunities for senior footy, wouldn't it make sense to move to a club that has a complete dearth of players of his type?
I agree Hampton would be a great addition to our team but it seems like it's all but a done deal with Adelaide.Twitter @cmdil

To be fair, the AFL's argument against us was that we were using the COLA loading to give us an unfair advantage. To be clear, I am not agreeing with that assessment. However, the AFL can quite legitimately say that Hawthorn are simply taking advantage of their hard work, success, and the excellence of their organisational set-up to attract players who are, on the whole, happy to trade away potential earnings against the opportunity for a flag. Good luck to them.Comment

Exactly. The unsubstantiated view that Sydney 'took advantage of the COLA' is an increasingly apparent joke.Comment

Many on here are having a go at the Hawks. We picked up Tippett and Franklin in successive years without even giving up one draft pick.
The Hawks are seeing an opportunity and making it happen.
We are backing our academy and thus can't afford to lose too many draft picks in 2015 and 2016.
If we were not seriously looking at Academy or Father / Son prospects then we could put an offer to Carslie.
Just different execution strategies.Comment

No issue with what Hawthorn are doing. Certainly an issue with the AFL but that's really got nothing to do with what Hawthorn are doing.Bloods

Had we been able to pick Patful last year and strengthen our defence like Hawks did with Frawley Lake and Gibson now Carlisle instead we got banned instead.Comment
