There will be more picks taken out of the system than put in, because it may take several lower picks that are now being accumulated by the Giants and Brisbane to secure players bid for at the high end of the draft. Some of those very late picks should move up a few spots once a few of the academy players are taken.

I like Birdy, we all do, but he has become surplus to our requirements, frees up salary cap space, we get gun young recruits and Hawks DON'T get Carlisle! I'm very happy! There's a bigger picture here.

was there a run-out sale on the word vexatious that I missed? Have never seen it used so many times in such close proximity.

Now I've gone and used it.

In other news, farewell Birdy. Under appreciated by many on here, glad you were part of the team in 2012.

The thing I dislike the most about this new points system is that it takes any semblance of planning and control, for our draft strategy, away from us.

Our draft outcome for this year, and maybe next year, are now in the hands of other clubs.

Given we have let our first pick go for a few points, means all and sundry know we will be taking Mills no matter where he is picked...

Therefore no risk to dodgy bidders.

We'll have to wait and see if dodgy(that's for you IF) bidding becomes a feature of the draft.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

Wouldn't it have been so much more sensible just to let us have Mills with pick 14 and Dunkley with pick 33? Has all this really been worth all the trouble everyone's gone through and the nuttiness of trading for value points? Is this really an improvement of the system?

This is what happens when Mr. Vexatious gets his way.

HAWTHORN secured former Melbourne tall Jack Fitzpatrick late on Wednesday in a deal that sent selection No.94 to the Demons.

Fitzpatrick played just 22 games in five years for the Demons and was delisted at the end of the season after just three games in 2015.

Huh? If he was delisted, how can he be traded? Doesn't he just become a delisted free agent?

We're not complaining about losing Bird. We're complaining about it being such a crappy deal.

We had pick 14 in a shallow draft (picks below 20 don't have much value) so were in a strong position to deal yet they gave away that pick for lower picks of equal value.

They would have been better to trade Bird for a the last pick in the draft (i.e. nothing) and then negotiate with another club for pick 14.

I didn't say that but someone at Melbourne seems to be targeting us. Could be him or someone else.

For once I don't think we can blame a crappy trade on them. It's our fault. Now we will be seen a soft negotiators (insert picture of ATM spitting out draft picks here).

And now Melbourne have got Bugg plus pick 7 for some tail end picks. Sure they will use 7 on Mills which will mean we will need to dip into 2016 to get Dunkley. At Carlton's pick 8 we needed Dunkley to be 20 or lower.

Happy with pick 7 on Mills because by then Hopper will have been taken pushing 7 out to 8. Pick 8 we can do and still take Dunkley in early second round.

Trying to get tickets to draft night. If Mills is bid on by Carlton at 1 or Melbourne at 3 I'll yell out "vexatious bid", hopefully to be picked up by the TV sound and be happy to get thrown out!

Surely he will have a new AFL registered contract with Essendon.
