What I've realised from following footy for way too long is the overall significance of the guy. I cannot think of any player whose influence and stature goes as far beyond the white line around the footy ground as Adam's did. There have been a few other players (not many) whose achievements on the field rival Adam's (someone like Chris Judd I guess) but their influence and the issues they've raised doesn't extend beyond the sport they play to anywhere near the extent Adam's does. He is a very unique individual in Australia's history. Obviously people on this forum understand this, but on Saturday night as my family and I stood up to watch him kick that last goal, and some people behind us told us to sit down (we didn't of course) I wondered how many people really
understood what was unfolding. Not wishing to sound too grandiose, but it was the end of an era.
