Don't read the comments!
But it is awful that Goodes even in retirement feels he needs to avoid the general AFL public.Chillin' with the strange QuarksComment

I did read a few of the posts and the posts shouting down the red necks was encouraging, as one person said "He just cannot win".
What I would like to see is some tribute to Adam at the awards and a statement from the AFLPA that unequivocally condemns the treatment of him by fans. Maybe they can show the leadership that was so lacking by Gill the Dill and his old school tie networkComment

You know what? I reckon Goodsey has complete control of his exit. Why? Because he has chosen not to do the GF parade. He has chosen/asked to not be considered for the AFL retired players award; these are his choices. Noone has told him not to come to the Parade. Definitely noone has told him not to be in line for the AFL players award. He is making his own decisions on every aspect of his retirement from this game, including the quiet exit from the ground.
And you have to admit, that last goal, we all knew didn't we, that's why everyone stood and cheered.
He is very much in charge of his life, his retirement, his career.
I love it. Strong man. Lots to be learned from him.If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

I find the article interesting for what it doesn't say.
It doesn't say that Goodes has elected not to be involved in the award because of an ongoing boycott of matters AFL.
Goodesy's reasons for not being involved could be anything. His mum might be crook. He might be busy doing something with his Foundation. He might be going fishing. Who knows.
But when articles are written like this without specific quotes detailing reasons my radar always starts beeping.Comment

My point is this journalist basically stole the idea of the swans website and passed it off as his own. Gallery: Goodesy's career in 37 photos - sydneyswans.com.auWild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Love this comment from the above article...
I like and admire Goodsey - he's a good man.
We need more than just "respect and civility" - Australia, let's go to the next level. I?m talking: ?Goodsey - the Musical?.
Feel free to hum along.
Oh..
From humble origins - did Goodsey spring,
His life journey ? there's an inspiring thing.
Those booing - would you have done as well?
Find time to listen, what a story he has to tell.
Oh.. (chorus)
You say you?re not a racist - or bogan fool,
And, that there?s no intention - to be cruel.
So, why the booing ? even if it?s your right?
It looks nothing more ? than an ugly sight.
Oh..
That bloke in guernsey 37 ? I like the man,
Having watched for years - I?m a great fan.
Well, for a start - he?s been ?Oz of the Year?,
Add two Brownlows ? what?s not to cheer?
Oh.. (chorus)
You say you?re not a racist - or bogan fool,
And, that there?s no intention - to be cruel.
So, why the booing ? even if it?s your right?
It looks nothing more ? than an ugly sight.
Oh..
On the footy oval - Goodsey dances,
And, the day?s pleasure - it enhances.
Celebrate your heritage ? as you will,
My respect for you ? is growing still.
Oh.. (chorus)
You say you?re not a racist - or bogan fool,
And, that there?s no intention - to be cruel.
So, why the booing ? even if it?s your right?
It looks nothing more ? than an ugly sight.
Oh
He?s a decent man ? undeserving of this,
Why at Goodsey - do they boo and hiss?
Despite this - he shows dignity and grace.
Yet, the pain and hurt - written on his face.

I too am pleased that Adam is bowing out on his terms but the whole situation leaves a sour taste in the mouth. He should be going out with the fanfare he deserves. It seems to me that the obsessive and unrelenting venting of a red-neck minority across the board has in effect led to this extraordinarily dismaying outcome. It is just so wrong!!!
I am also disillusioned by the AFL. I know there were no guidelines to follow in dealing with the saga as it unfolded but they failed big-time in providing the support he needed from them.Comment

The AFL was summed up in that pathetic statement from Fitzpatrick. Self serving, late, drivel and that no one at Commission HQ thought to say it was a bad idea says it all.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment
