Many people thought Max was brilliant but inconsistent. Turns out he had a heart valve problem. Only found out many years after he stopped playing. My brother knows him and he said he sometimes ran out of breath at training. Had he been in better health probably wins a Brownlow. Absolutely brilliant player. More skilled than Peter Bedford and that is saying something. Looks like Tom has inherited the both sides of the body skills. Can't wait to see him in action.

I'm a Leftie, Southpaw, Kacky Hander, molly Duker. Do you know when I was a kid about 10% of people were left handed. Mind you if you were left handed the teachers would beat you into writing right hand.Comment

Tom is a bit of a feel good story. I wonder if any of the 10,000 accredited AFL journalists will pick up on it. I reckon there have been about 75 stories, many rehashed, about Treloar.Comment

I am a bit of a ho hum person about Treloar. I have seen him play a lot and while a good player he is not the star the scribes are making him out. He can break open matches and he is hard at it. But he also has some traits that deflate his value as far as I'm concerned. He is a hot head. Doesn't perform that well when heavily tagged and loses it with the tagger. His delivery is sometimes iffy. You have to take the good with the bad and an aggressive player is going to give frees away. He also backchats the umps. Buckley thinks he has the GWS match winner but I think he was sometimes a very good player and at other a good player and when heavily tagged almost unsighted. In most games against us we tagged him out of the game.
Yes the Papley story is interesting with both his gandfathers playing for the club. Often times the talent skips a generation or the next generation find other things to do. Would be interesting to see the Swans TV interviews with him. Could do our own doco if he makes it or on his first game.Comment

There's a different Sam Reid who plays (and coaches in some capacity, I think) in the NEAFL for UWS Giants. I believe he was redrafted after being delisted by GWS.Comment

[QUOTE=Scottee;688087]Having watched both Max and PB I can't split their skills but am thrilled that we have someone with similar dual sidedness and and promising footy talent.[/QUOTE}
His other grandfather Jeff Bray also played for the Swans. He was a member of West Adelaide's 1961 premiership team and played two seasons at South Melbourne that were interrupted by injury. Bray was a magnificent kick. Max Papley was described by none other than Bobby Skilton as one of the greatest footballers to don the swans guernsey. Young Tom has some good pedigree there and I sincerely hope he makes it. We desperately need a hard, productive small forward.Comment

Sam Murray has some Swans history as well with his father playing at South Melbiourne in the late 70s. No senior games but spent some time there.
Google Peter Muzza Murray and you'll get the full history.I FEEL THE NEED FOR SPEED!!!!!Comment
