Do any of the reserves watchers think X.Richards could be useful in the role his brother has filled over the last couple of weeks?

His stats certainly suggest he's a chance......add to that the 'Ted up forward' ruse appears to be over.

It might sound strange but Ted's role really isn't about kicking goals, any that he does kick would be a bonus. It's add structure to the forward line and draw defenders away from Buddy's space, particularly the ones that like to come third man into the marking contest like Gibson and Henderson. It didn't work last week as the Hawks were happy to match a rookie in Kaiden Brand on Teddy and have Gibson mark Towers or someone smaller.

So the question becomes whether Xavier can slot into this decoy forward's role and not get in Buddy's way. Have the discipline and the know how to drag his opponent (probably Weitering?) away from the action.

Yeah, that's the question I was asking.

I agree with you about's Ted's role, but we have to do contingency planning for the finals now. It's more than just the Carlton game, which should be an easy win regardless of our lineup.

With those 3 losses that shouldn't have been, we've put ourselves into a position where we have to run the next 6 games to make the top 4 and give ourselves a chance in the finals. We are 20 points better than every opponent we will be facing and if we don't get the job done, we shouldn't be thinking finals.

I've been ambivalent at best about XR's future, but he has produced since being moved forward in the reserves and we need to find another tall forward marking option, not only as a decoy for Buddy, but someone who can put a few goals on the board as well. I think the XR call up is one that we have to make due to our circumstances. The Talia situations makes a certainty his unavailability to take any further part in the season, even if was looking pretty slim anyway.

XR is more likely to take marks on the lead rather winning wrestling contests with his opponent, especially at AFL level. He's quite mobile and from what I've seen knows when and where to lead. So it would seem he has the footy nous to do a forward decoy role, but whether he has the discipline I'm not sure.

A nice idea but would the midfield kick to him or still try and hit up Buddy with three defenders hanging off him?

Except he didn't play in defence.
Well that answers one of my questions that i posted in the ressies thread! Do you think he could play that small half back role similar to Jones though?

Surely it has to be Newman for Jones as he has after all trained and played very well in the ressies as a back the last two years so knows what is required. Foote is a mid not a backman. We have to now make changes that will be for the finals as I doubt Jones with a bad ankle will get back in time with sufficient fitness.

X must be close but not sure who would go out for him other than Ted.

Don't think Benny did enough last week so Heeney for Benny, Newman for Jones.
