Rather than blow a lot of money on compensation to ANZ, why not just send off ANZ in style. Make an event of the last game at the stadium.

Hawthorn did this to VFL park very successfully.

To not do this, just shows the pettiness of the swans.

Because we are there to win premierships and not to farewell white elephants. No pettiness involved!

Just because you have wet dreams about your 'grand old lady' of Australian sport, doesn't mean the Swans have to bow down to it and give it some sort of grand sendoff. Maybe that could be dancers dressed up as giant bolts, or ensuring the turf is an absolute mess for the final game - just for the memories and all....

The club should be doing what it thinks is right for the club and its members , and I'd argue that most would agree that would incorporate hosting the finals matches at the club's actual home ground.

While the compensation payouts look over the top, I'm sure the club would glad to pay it if they think it can help us try to achieve what is the ultimate outcome for any footy club - and that is winning the flag.

I'm not going to get into a venue versus venue argument with you, but that statement is just wrong.
Hawthorn had much more of a tie to Waverly oval than we ever did to ANZ and is still their training base today and it is not pettiness by the Swans it is simply doing what the fans and members have shown time and time again what they want.

I don't get the intensity of the ANZ hate on these forums. Sure, it's not my favourite ground and it has some real issues, but people speak as if playing there is the worst thing in the world.

I don't think Longmire or the team lose much sleep over it, nor should I.

Send it off in style like Parramatta fans sent Cumberland Oval off in style back in '81??

They burnt the place to the ground celebrating their first premiership. Sounds like a good idea for ANZ...

Thats stupid over the top BS.

Swans have a contract with ANZ. The contract ends this year. Sure, both parties are seperating. But in most business scenario's you leave those petty differences behind and mark the final chapter in style.
A lot of great footy events have happened at ANZ over the years. Its a core part of our history. I'm saying, go out with a bang, not an expensive, petty wimper.

I am no longer an ANZ member, and will have to get tickets like everyone else if a game is there.

I think you are right. For me, it is just how amazing finals are at a packed SCG for at-ground atmosphere and TV pictures (think 2005 semi and 1996 prelim).

Now there's another day that we don't talk about.
It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

I agree it was a big crowd and great atmosphere but ultimately the mayblooms prevailed much to the disappointment of my son who was attending his first live game

People need to pay their last respects to a stadium. It needs closure.

A smart marketter could do wonders with this. A farewell to the West.

Imagine the swans banner. "Goodbye to our fans from the West. Its been the best 16 years of the clubs history"

Then imagine if they were playing GWS and they had a banner. "all ye abandoned, enter here"
