Cheers I must admit I've woven some of Ludwig's suggestions in there as well.

I would have thought it unlikely we'd rookie list any players we passed up on last year unless they have improved out of sight and I haven't seen that. Of the kids we overlooked last year Baron-Hay looked the most impressive for mine this year in the NEAFL albeit on a small sample size of games.

I would think we'd rookie list both Brown and Davis if we can. I would think we'd take our option on Brown and list him if we have to but I suspect that we may miss out on Davis.

For us it can be a good move because while they are both great players JOM (a) has more upside; and (b) is more different to our other midfielders and offers more on the outside and in terms of classy disposal. On the downside JOM has a disquieting recent injury history, so there is some risk.

I'm not sure if this would be overs but we would be able to offer 2 first round picks for JOM - ours plus one that we get for Mitchell. Losing Mitchell, Teddy and McGlynn is also going to create some salary cap space and, while we need that space because some of it is already accounted for, an anticipated increase in the cap size could make room for JOM, especially if he's willing to resist top dollar to come to a champion club. Given that I gather he is from around Geraldton, WA the go-home factor is hopefully neutralised because there is no AFL club that can take him 'home'.

What's changed for me is that I have realised that JOM is not as unattainable as I had previously thought. Also he's come out and formally made it clear that he wants to leave the Suns. This is among the (multiple) upsides of blooding so many youngsters and losing so many oldies - cap space!
I reckon there is zero % chance of us being in for JOM. He'll blow out our wage structure and most certainly cost more than Mitchell. And I'd prefer to keep Mitchell. He has class but for mine JOM is a crocked show pony and I fully expect him to go to the Bombers

A fully fit JOM could be every bit as good as Chris Judd, but I wouldn't want him at the Swans. We already have an abundance of elite midfielders and future elite midfielders. 3 AAs this year with Mills and Heeney waiting in the wings. Hewett and Jones won't be far off elite either and Lloyd can play in the midfield as well (he's technically a very good inside midfielder; could spend more time on ball when he becomes physically stronger). I'd be saving our money for a future KPP star. We've got midfield coverage for the next decade.

We may well have a future KPP star in our academy being drafted in 2018 so future picks next year may be sought after. B-O-G as an under 16 in an Under 19 Final with four goals against a North Shore side stacked with quality. NSW/ACT MVP at the recent U16 Nationals. I expect young N.Blakey to play a fair bit of NEAFL the back end of next season as an under-age U18 player, he is that good.

If he was a yearling with the bloodlines he has (his sister represented Australia as a sprinter in the recent World Junior Championships) he's fetch top dollar but let's see how he goes I guess.

              interesting discussion.
outs at end of 2016 - Teddy (retired), Tom Derickx, Hiscox, Mitchell (traded most likely), McGlynn (he might get another year if he plays well in the finals).
Rookies to finish - Melican?, Galloway?

Can't see Sam Reid being traded. He and XR would play a similar mobile forward role. As already mentioned by some on here XR has provided a good boost for our forward line structure. He's mobile, has good hands and likes a goal.

For the QF on Saturday. Mills to come in for Harri Marsh (probably). What about Zac Jones in for Harry C? I realize Harry C has finals experience but Zac has developed well this year.

Can't see Jones coming in this weekend. He played 3/4 game last weekend - his first for well over a month. If he plays well in the NEAFL GF this weekend I can see him pressuring one of the Harry's for a spot in the senior team's later finals. (The other Harry will almost certainly already be out of the side for Mills.)

Daniel Wells hasn't resigned with Norf yet. Probably one of the few North players I dont mind, could even see him in red and white, think he'd be a really valuable asset for us at the end of his career. Would be a nice change to have a silky/classy midfielder instead of all our in and under guns and dodgy disposers
I am aware he is 31, just always liked the bloke and was thinking aloud

Gotta love what a donkey Damien Barrett is - today's Sliding doors:

"the Hawks add Mitchell, Vickery and O'Meara ... ... there's no reason they won?t go after Fyfe and Hogan next year. They just get deals done while other clubs are too scared to even pick up the phone."

Imagine if the Swans tried to do the same the uproar there would be....
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

This is more of a dig at other Melbourne clubs, because they are more worried what Sydney clubs are doing than watching what is happening in their own backyard. He was just releasing a cat among pigeons and see what a reaction would be if the Hawks win another flag this year.

The swans have landed some pretty big deals!

I doubt they've got the currency or salary cap space to land all of Mitchell, O'Meara and Vickery (free agent but would be on relatively good coin) this year. As for Fyfe and Hogan most teams in the comp will be chasing them if they haven't signed up

But the old guys can just take another pay cut They work under a 'flexible' salary cap at the best of times.
