Obviously the opportunity to play for a successful club is a pretty huge draw, but beyond that how do Hawthorn manage to do it? Presumably they have multiple guys who have moved to the club on a figure that is significantly under their market value- do they have really strong corporate ties to line people up with opportunities outside of football?

The Suns will just be glad to get something for Jaeger after their dopey President's ill timed childish rant. I'd expect the Hawks first rounder plus a fringe player would get the deal done. This would see the Suns with indicative picks 4,6,8,15,21,22,24,27,40 if you assume that Prestia will go at pick 6. That's NINE quality picks.
You'd think they'd consolidate the last four picks into first rounders, probably for GWS' picks 7 and 17 which will leave them with picks 4,6,7,8,15,17 and 21. Throw in another if North go for Swallow.
They'll take Bowes and Scheer from the academy so I guess they then need to decide how to play their remaining five quality picks. There's no reason why they can't use this draft to have another crack at building their list, my personal view would be to trade for one experienced player at most and just mine the draft GWS style.
Of course GWS are pretty much also guaranteed 5-6 top 30 picks so their list will also grow in strengthComment

SEN running very funny talk back about everyone going to Hawthorn - Stevie J asking to be traded to the hawks so he doesn't have to worry about being suspended, Donald Trump has asked to be President of Hawthorn, Elvis wants to be seen there, Robert Allenby wants to be mugged there, etc. Its a bit of a change to everyone coming to Sydney. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

So we have one official addition to the primary list for 2017. Nic Newman. So officially it's in Nic, out Ted. So with upgrades in the wind for Papley, Marsh and Foote plus the need for some top end draft picks, I'm not sure where the room is going to come from. Only certain out would seem to be Derickx. Perhaps we are resigned top losing Mitchell. RWO sacrificial lambs appear McGlynn and Hiscox with a question mark over Towers. Heaven forbid we're not anticipating an AJ break down or a Sam Reid recurrence. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

Senior list currently 38, assuming we continue to run with 38 main and 6 rookies.
Out - Ted, Drex, Benny, Hiscox, AJ to Rookie list leaves 33
In - Papley, Newman, probably Marsh makes 36
That's only two ND picks 14/18 and 32/36 unless we trade out one more than we trade in. Trade outs could be Mitchell plus Nankers and Towers have raised interest at other clubs.
Mitchell will bring a high draft pick, Nankers/Towers mid/late 30s?Comment

I wouldn't be surprised to see us look for a player plus pick upgrade for Mitchell and to be fair Hawthorn have a history of being prepared to be fair traders and give up genuine picks/players for their targets. I'd be more than happy to take Schoenmakers and an upgrade of one of those late 30s picks to a late 20s or early 30s pick, if we do lose Nanka then we could well need that pick to get a quality young ruckman. If we don't get Schoenmakers I still think we'll go for a KPD because Saturday night re-inforced to me that we are a tall defender short when we have to match up on a power forward line. It's just not fair or a good match up for Dane Rampe to have to deal with a beast like Cameron. MacKenzie would be great for us and I think we'd have the cap space and the draft picks to land him from the Eagles.
I reckon Towers is gone, he really did not play well at the NEAFL Grand Final and he just hasn't delivered on the potential of last year but he seems like a quality bloke and I am sure he'll get a good run somewhere else. Nankervis I think we really want to keep but surely he's better than a fourth ruckman and I'd think he'll be looking for greater match time.
I think this will be one of the busiest trade periods ever and we won't be quite as inactive as we first thoughtComment

On ability, one list manager told AFL.com.au O'Meara was worth two top-10 picks, but said the fact he hadn't played for two years meant that two later first-round picks could get the deal done. Another list manager thought one top-10 pick would be enough to get the deal done.
Mitchell's market value was rated between pick No.10 and No.20 by one recruiter, with another saying he was worth a mid-to-late first-round pick.
Recruiter conspiracy! A guy who has a dodgy knee & hasn't played in 2 years valued well over a guy who over those 2 years has averaged over 25 disposals a game. The recruiters are driving down Mitchell's trade value to screw us over, I tells ya!
Plus Mitchell's last couple of games has probably driven down his stock price and trade value ... prove me wrong Tom ... pleeeeease sign with us!Last edited by goswannies; 13 September 2016, 08:00 PM.Comment

Are you talking about bundling them? Coz few people here rate Towers, why would any other club give a mid/late 30s pick for him?Comment

If we let Nankervis go we have rocks in our heads. He has so much upside and looked cut above any big man in the Neafl. Far more skilled all round than Naismith.Comment

I believe he wants to play more than 6-8 senior games a year so I guess it is a matter of what he gets offered and whether he wants to fight for his spot here. Money would also come into as well I guess but I agree that he is a great prospect as we all know that ruckmen are late bloomersComment

There's talk of Sicily being offered up to Gold Coast as part of the deal maybe along with pick 1 this year. I'm surprised they'd let him go but apparently young Sicily is a bit loose off the field and generally regarded as an accident waiting to happen which probably means he'll settle in at the Suns just fineComment
