AFL website says we have entered the race for Tuohy from the Blues.

He would be great I reckon but would have Zak Jones, HC and Laidler and Marsh annoyed at going one further down the list re first choice defenders.

I've often thought that this was one of the odd things about our drafting in recent years. Our whole strategy for more than a decade has been based on tadgh, mal, mattner and shaw running from hb. and then we just stopped looking (although i grant you that towers may have been thought of as one of those players and leonardis is a more recent example). I know newman is well liked by ressies watchers but he seems more of a suckling type who kicks it well than a run 15 and kick 50 type.

i dont see tuohy as being in compatition with laidler who is more of a zoning off medium sized defender but cunningham's possie would definitely be under pressure.

If Mitchell leaves then Zak and/or Mills will move to the mids so there'll be spot up for grabs. He'll provide good competition so I guess as long as we don't give up too much then I'd be happy with this trade. Perhaps whatever we get for Towers plus our third rounder which we won't use

Well, that should put some pressure on the Hawks. If we "want" someone from the Blues, the Blues have consistently shown interest in Mitchell, the Hawks can't just offer us rubbish trade for Mitchell.

Or, hopefully it ends up like last time the Hawks and the Blues were interested in one of our own & Tommy stays like RO'K did (and wins a premiership and a Norm Smith)

            I certainly hope so.

I have a feeling hawks have gone a bit cold on mitchell since omeara nominated them.

Robbo on AFL 360 spoke as if it was a certainty that he would go there but I guess we'll see. Jake Niall just indicated that we will drive a hard bargain and I hope we do.

I think we'd all prefer that he go to Carlton than the wees and poos but we try and play nice with trades provided they are reasonable so I expect he'll end up there and that their 2017 first rounder plus a second round upgrade this year would do the business.

I wouldn't be so sure, and I think this is the biggest risk Hawthorn will be taking if they bring in O'Meara, Mitchell and, to a lesser extent Vickery, on more money than many of their triple premiership players who are in their mid-to-late 20's.

Guys like Breust, Smith, Birchall, Shiels, Stratton and probably even Gunston would all be on significantly less than $500K.

That's fine when you're part of a great team, winning premierships - and possibly still palatable when experienced positional players like McEvoy, Frawley et al are brought in. And it's a different story for the 4-time premiership players right at the end of their careers who are willing to take a bit of a pay cut after being paid handsomely for 10+ years.

But when an era is possibly ending and younger players are brought in on significantly more money, I think that it will put more noses out of joint throughout the middle of their list.

Even more when inevitably they'll have to tap a couple of their teammates on the shoulder and send them packing to facilitate the trades.

In any case, that figure of $380K we've apparently offered Mitchell is being reported as though it's our final offer. We've been on record as saying we can't increase our offer until the new salary cap figure is confirmed - so $380K is the minimum but you can assume that will be increased. How much we can up it is the issue - not what is currently on the table.

When are they going to confirm the new salary cap?

It is being reported as a fait accompli but I do think we have one last shot to fire and I do think that Tom would prefer to stay all things being equal.

Or it may just be that we cannot afford him without jeopardising the future of our other kids. Personally I'd prefer to see Reid being sacrificed if we need to make cap space but the ideal situation could be that we give him a three year deal.

Having said that I reckon he is gone but that we are reasonably well equipped to deal with him going

Who knows? Surely they need to provide clarity to the clubs and players. I think that clubs have been told informally to budget for an increase of $1,300,000 in the TPP next year with increase of approximately $300,000 - $400,000 each year after but the AFLPA believe this is grossly inadequate given the increase in total game revenue.

How much of this we have already factored in I don't know

Dunstall suggesting tonight on OTC that our Mitchell offer was derisory, based on what I'm not sure. Suggests that they think he's gone I suspect.

If Mitchell is gone it will have been planned by List Management and will be handled so as to benefit the club. Don't see how Hawks can get the deal done unless someone like Bruest is involved. Carlton, if we are interested in Tuohy can get it done with a pick thrown our way or pick upgrade.

2017 - Mitchell out, Tuohy off a HBF (O'Riordan as understudy), Mills as a silky wingman, Jones as a quick hard rabid dog midfielder. Sounds good to me

I would imagine Tuohy would be asking less than Breust too

It all depends how much is Breust asking. The only reason they would get Breust is to replace Heeney in the forward line. It looks like Heeney is now being groomed to play in the midfield. Obvious replacement for Mitchell. The question is: do we need Breust to replace Heeney in the forward line? I thought Breust wanted to play in the midfield as well. As suggested earlier in this thread, he would fit better with the Suns.
