I would try to ship out as many marginal players as possible to get into this draft. I would have Towers, BJ and Marsh on the trade table as well. I can't see them with big futures with us.
Maybe Freo would take Marsh for their 3rd round pick. That would be enough to get Olango, I think.
Towers and BJ to Brisbane for pick 28 or even better add pick 36 and get back pick 19. That should give us 3 picks inside 20, which should set us up well for the future.Comment

Ireland did say a few weeks ago we were into drafting this year so on that we will be trading for picks.Comment

We made a GF, debut 7 kids of which 5 look longterm, we don't need the draft, we need quality 23-26yr old like the one who just walked out the door, only fasterComment

Richmond will get pick 26 for Vickery. I'd take that for Nanka.

PS: Listening to Terry Wallace on Trade Radio analyzing the Swans. What an idiot. He knows nothing about the Swans. How he ever became a coach is beyond me.
Three rookie upgrades and whatever we get for Nanka being used to select a ruckman.
Still leaves us three picks. If we want to recruit Jake Brown then he won't cost us more than our third rounder. So I guess that leaves us with Pick 17 and Pick 36 (will end up being later with compo picks) and you'd think we'd get a decent upgrade from the Lions for Towers.
So the question to me is whether we defer until 2017 for the major pick we get from the Hawks or try and upgrade Pick 17 to a top 3/4 pick. Maybe also a swap of their 2017 Pick 2 for our Pick 3 which would get us up to the Top 10 I think Tom is worth

Screw that, we just come out of a trade ban (one we whinged consistently about) and now we are into the Draft ?

I personally would like us to use that spare cap space to secure Heeney and Mills' future, we've got more than enough upside from within the squad which is why I like the idea of two first rounders for 2017.

Future Picks will get it doneComment

FAAAAAAAAAA.... can't believe we lost Mitchell. He's in the prime of his career at only 23 and averages 28 disposals and 12 contested possessions per game, one of the top players in the Swans team during the GF. This is a kick in the guts.Comment

I think Newman comes into the side next year and perhaps Rose. But we still have Foote, Robbo, COR, Davis and Dawson who will find it hard to break into the side barring injuries. Richards will likely drop out of the side for Reid and Cunningham will be trying to regain his spot, probably to no avail. So we certainly don't need another experienced player blocking their pathway to senior footy.Comment

You can't stockpile lower picks anymore. If you go into draft with 5 picks but only have 3 spots on your roster, you lose picks 4 and 5 with no compensation. If we use up all our points from the top 3 picks for Blakey, we get ur 2nd and 3rd picks at the end of the draft.Comment

I think we are about getting a stronger presence at the pointy end of this years draft given I can see us taking as little as two and no more than three picks this year so make them pointy end picks. Reckon there will be players like Nankervis and/or Towers let go for pointy end pick upgrades. Strengthening next years draft position could also be a priority.
Swapping bundles of later picks to get an upgrade of a pick might be a tactic as well.
On the Mitchell trade, I think we'll push for a quick trade, maybe slight unders of 14 (or 2018 first) & 34 early in the trade period to give us time to do other things, don't want it dragging out. If it stalls with Hawthorn there will no doubt be other Melbourne clubs with better picks and cap space as well throwing their hat into the ring.Last edited by 707; 11 October 2016, 07:08 AM.Comment

i think we just have to trust our list guys...Kinnear Beatson is one of the best goign around and knows what he is doing...i am sure they have had an idea mitchell was going and planned for it....i still think it maybe a long shot tht we will end up with o'meara even though he has nominated hawks, what we dont know is he may have said hawks but happy with sydney if deal cant be done....Comment

I read that the Swans have told Hawthorn that we want draft picks , not players. There goes my Bruest theory.
So then I wonder if that means we want lots of early picks in this draft, to load up with our next wave of mids.....
Or are we eyeing off a big name from another club and need picks to secure him?....hmmmmWhenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

There are a fair number of players with pace and skills, especially in the top 30, plus some decent KPP prospects later on in the draft if we want.Comment
