I don't blame Mumford for a little bitterness to be honest. We dearly miss him and he's a large part of the reason we won in 2012 and haven't won it since. I would also say he's a very large part of the reason why GWS have become such a force.
Mummy and the stack of high draft picks, extended list, cap space etc

You keep saying that but it is actually not correct. Tippett's cracked jaw happened earlier (when I think he got an accidental boot to his head).

I'm not at all defending Mumford's tackle but I don't think it helps to overstate the injury from it.

I dont think Dummy is the whole reason but he was the final piece to give the all star mids first use of the ball. Plus they are all mature players now, so if anything they should be wiping the comps arse.

Seriously watching GW$ on the weekend and i cant believe how the AFL thought giving them a team that resembles the harlem globetrotters was a good idea for the rest of the comp. So many passages of play that were sublime and reminded me of watching a rep side.

So then you could say Dumbfords illegal tackle enhanced the injury to the point of causing a fracture.

Dunno about that. Gold Coast has heaps of concessions and look how they're going.

The scary thought Kilroy is that so many in that team are nowhere near the peak of their powers either - there is substantial further improvement to be had yet.....

The AFL certainly better be enjoying the fruits of their 'computer cheat code' generated super side, as there are going to be many in the league that quickly tire of it.

I'm not sure the concessions were that different, though. At some point we need to accept they've done a cracking job at their club, albeit with a decent leg up to start with.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

There's decent, and there is obscene.

This is what Fremantle (used to be my second team) got:

Fremantle's initial squad of 50 players was compiled from a mixture of uncontracted players from other AFL clubs (maximum of 12 over two years), players who had previously nominated for the AFL draft but not been selected (unlimited from the WAFL, two each from the SANFL, VFL and TFL), up to ten delisted AFL players, trades with any other AFL club, unlimited selections from their four "aligned" WAFL clubs and selections 1, 4 and then the first two selections in each round of the 1994 AFL draft.

Assuming they would have gotten the first pick in each round anyway as the new "bottom side", they only got pick 4, and the 2nd pick of rounds 2, 3, 4 and 5 in one draft, vs how many first round picks in how many drafts as well as access to 16 year olds for GWS?

I can understand what the AFL wanted to avoid with the concessions but i cant respect them (GWS) at all if they end up winning a load of flags before well established clubs who have been through a lot of tears and hard work to even get close to having a chance at winning a flag.

Who ended up being elite from those draft years? I am just trying to picture freo circa 1998-99 with the cream of the crop ala GWS now.

Also wernt the AFL scared that Freo was going to end up a super club if they gave them a lot of first rounders?

Fremantle's draft (they traded pick 4 for Todd Delaney from the Bombers - crud, 21 for Scott Watters - very good player, and 39 for Derek Kickett in his final years):

                                Jeff White (#1)
                                Winston Abraham (#22)
                                Douglas Headland (#42)
                                Ryan Smith (#56)
                                Dean Grainger (#72)
                                Sam McFarlane (#73)

White was decent, but not elite, but they would have had pick 1 anyway as the new team effectively finishing below the team who was last in the previous season. Dockers didn't make finals until 2003.
