Probably 2-3 weeks for a grade one strain. If it was during the season 3 weeks to ensure it healed, as re-tears and resulting in chronic hamstring problems are a problem for returning too soon.
If it was Heath James, 3 weeks - minimum - because of chronic hamstring problems.
In Cal's situation, where it is 3 weeks to a GF, he'd be a chance for the granny, pending recovery & testing.
Moreover, 2 weeks is a possibility if it's only a minor Grade 1 strain, on the grounds that 1) he passes the fitness tests, 2) he could get us through to a GF as a valuable player, 3) if he re-injured and we don't make a GF, he has the post & pre-season to recover, if he re-injured an we do make a GF, well, we're in a GF, if he doesn't re-injure it's a good outcome.
The other thing they would consider is the risk of a much more serious injury if he did re-tear & the longs term repercussions (refer to Heath James).
If he was older, the recovery would likely be slower too. He's you & younger tissue id theoretically a little more resilient. I don't know his history of hamstring injuries (if none, that helps).
At this time of the season, it's very much more about risk vs reward.
When it happened I said to my dad that I thought it was a grade one as he didn't crumple in a heap, nor did he clutch it in agony (he grabbed for it & slowed up but still ran through a little). He seemed to jog a little (albeit uncomfortably) as he came off & I said to dad that my impression of his hitting the ground with his fist was possibly more that the medicos we're going to pull him from the game more as a precaution because they didn't know the severity & couldn't be assured that more damage wouldn't be done. That was only my impression, based on the brief footage I saw on TV at the time, mind you)
