I understand these are all old injuries. It seems each of them went into the GF with these as existing injuries - not that we were told about them before the GF. Understandable in hindsight.

Both Buddy and Naismith had shoulder surgery immediately after the GF. I don't think Parker had knee surgery - someone else might know more.

One bit of good news though on injury front is how well Hannebery has recovered from the knee damage inflicted on him in the last quarter of the GF. Dan came home first in today's 3km time trial. Such a relief, I feared much worse the way he was hobbling after that GF incident.

Why does that gallery have to go into the Bulldogs celebrating the GF?

I was enjoying that and reflecting on how good we are until I saw that and came crashing down to earth

Hannebery was pleased with his performance in the time trial but even more excited by the condition of the young players.

?The last four or five weeks I have put in a bit of hard work with all the young guys,? he said.

Been a number of senior players return early, good sign, and Hanners was rewarded by showing the way in the time trial. Gives other guys, particularly newbies a beacon to aim for.

We need an observer to attend the next time trial to report back on who was bringing up the rear and how the new players performed.

Naismith was going for marks with one hand in the last couple of home and away games.

Yeah, Longmire casually mentioned that Parker wasn't fully training because of the PCL injury he picked up in the preliminary final. It sounds like a pretty significant injury that he would have missed weeks for during the season, but they played it down during grand final week. Explains his somewhat subdued performance; takes some character to convincingly play that down.

That's really exciting about Dawson keeping up with the like of Rampe and Lloyd. He's a very good mark of the ball and we know his kicking is exceptional. He has a good feel for the game as well. So this fitness boost is a sign that we may see a fair bit of Jordan this season. Longmire made special mention of him in an earlier interview, and that usually means he's got plans. I've gotten tired of hearing how Dean Towers is training the house down. Maybe Horse will leave that one go this year.

It is interesting and exciting to see the rise of some players outside and on the fringes of the 22. Nearly as interesting are some of the names that are missing. I'm not sure who else normally makes up the top 10 but allowing that talls usually aren't among the quickest, where are: Macca, Gazza, BJ, Heeney, Jones, Smooch, Swampy, Newman etc. I haven't included names who may be under an injury cloud like Mills and Hewett. Not everyone can be top 10 but there are some significant players that this top 10 are in front of. Very pleased for all of these guys good performances and excited to see if Dawson and O'Riordan can win debuts this year.

I haven't figured out why you have highlighted those two names in particular, Auntie. Are they the two players you think closest to busting into the top 22 who are not already there?
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

Just when Longmire reports that everyone is back in good shape we come to learn today that Parker and Papley both had surgery, which was already known to our head coach. Maybe that's Tom Harley's job and he wants to get some video exposure (perhaps in his contract).

Parker still looks on track to do enough to start round 1, but I doubt Papley having Compartment syndrome surgery will have enough training base to make round 1 and will likely start off in the reserves. Could be an opportunity for Harry C, BJ, Rose or even Florent to get a go in the forward line at the start of the season. Sam Fisher would be a similar type replacement if he's up to the task and there aren't rookie elevation issues involved. Leonardis can be a goal kicking forward and is and aggressive tackler. He plays a lot like Papley but with less polish.

AJ is now 6 months post surgery. I don't know what his program is and how far off he is from joining training with the main group. Hopefully he can start playing in the reserves early in the season.

Harry is proving a point, and I like seeing Dan Robinson in the top order. He looks to be a bloke who will leave NO stone unturned. Unlucky in 2016. I like him.

Buddy's got a nice little paunch there, sure it will get worked off in pre-season. One thing is for sure he'll gas up pretty quickly when he retires
