An article in today's Australian indicates that the Swans remain hopeful (even confident) of securing the signatures of both Reid and Jones. Both their managers have been on leave for the last few weeks, hence the lack of recent activity.
Of course, nothing is certain until it is certain (as the Mitchell situation taught us last year) but sounds like there's no undue reason to be concerned at this stage.Comment

We haven't had any correspondence suggesting talks are deferred to the end of the year, so I'd take the clubs view at face value. He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

Why as a football manager would you take your holidays during season for more than a week?

The North Shore has always been the food basket of the AFL in Sydney but in the past many kids have been lost to the game because the private schools locked out AFL. That has changed now and with the growth on the GPS/CAS comp I can see the Academy system really producing some quality players sooner rather than later.Comment

I'm open to trading both Tippett and Reid for a player of their like who can mark, kick, contest, etc etcThe difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

I wouldn't even try to guess who is best suited/available/wants to come/would appease everyone here

To be honest I just don't follow other teams closely enough to be able to pick some players.
I really don'y know who is out of contract/looking for a trade etc.
Happy for others to give their more informed opinions.
Normally I don't trade comment until the season is over, but I'm pretty much over Reid. And Tippo, well I gave him so many chances, and he never settled in to form. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

It's a shame Cameron did his shoulder as he has huge potential, even more so as a forward pinch-hitting in the ruck (a la Reid) rather than a second ruckman resting forward (in the mould of Sinclair).
Under the new structure, I wonder what we would do if we had a fit Tippett? Are we going to drop Naismith, Towers or Reid to make way? Or revert to two rucks? Or is he a very expensive depth player?Comment

Reid would be a gun if he could just stay on the paddock.
The swans need to be thinking about a forward who will become the primary target as buddy starts to go into decline. For example, would it be better to swap Reid and tippet for one of the young up and coming forwards now, rather than later.Comment

Remember the absolute rock solid order of drafting/recruiting
First is KPFs
Second is daylight
Third is midfielders
Almost every KPF of note is a high draft pick or a "shenanigans" pick like F/S old system, start up concessions etc. Very, very few KPF of any note came from outside that. So if you have a KPF like Reid who is coming into his prime, you don't let him slip away for a pocket full of magic hope beans. Sounds like promising news on the Reid/Jones re-signing front.
Happy for people to suggest who of the best KPF weren't in the high pick/shenanigans category, don't think the list is very long.Comment
