Beatson was a massive fan of Martins and tried to swap picks 5 -Rohan- & 11 Jetta (iirc) for pick 4 which would have brought Martin to the club.

It's an odd one though as no club wanted a bar of Martin just a few years back.

I wonder if a deal could be worked out with Richmond where we send Jones and Tippett to them for Martin and the first round compo pick they get for Martin (as Dusty would come as a FA). If Macca retires, we should free up enough cap space for Dusty and Richmond would be paying Jones and Tippett around what it would cost to keep Dusty.

I don't think Dusty is a dickhead. It's the MSG overload in Chinese restaurants that makes him go a bit bonkers.

As much as I'd love to see Melbourne in complete meltdown over this, it surely can't be sustainable to have Dusty in our side. We'd end up losing guys like Melican, Papley, Florent, Hayward, Newman, Mills, Heeney etc. when they come out of contract and start to demand a bigger salary

Mills & Heeney are already signed to 2021ish? so don't need to worry about them until then by which time Martin will be 31 and going onto a one or two year deal. Other players will have retired and freed up cap by the time we need to worry about this.

Would be an awesome midfield with Dusty in there, warming to the idea more and more. Mmmm, Dusty, mmmm

Sydney is always mentioned in trade talks, but seldom anything comes of it.

When it was rumoured that Buddy was coming to Sydney (the city, not the club) everyone thought it was to GWS. It was kept completely under wraps that it was us.

I would rather keep Zac I think.

Sydney is the 'Stalking Horse' of every trade involving a 'A' grade player. They need more listeners and Sydney are going to steal a player from a Melbourne Club.

If Sydney are going to do anything the Victorian media, or any media for that matter, will no nothing about it to it happens or until 'Trade week' after the season.

The unsigned stars of Josh Kelly, Dustin Martin, Devon Smith etc is stymieing several clubs and many deck chairs are moving around at the moment and other clubs have employed Scrooge McDuck to count their war chests and will then throw money at any good players that is not signed and likely will pay overs if they get anyone to sign with them.

SEN started Martin story and they are struggling for ratings. Herald Sun are running with it. Probably another fairy story to get clicks and listeners. Victorian footy public laps up any narrative that paints Swans as villains - sure fire winner regardless of any truth to it.

Zac Jones is a pretty decent player in the works, but Martin is in another stratosphere. Can you imagine the meltdown in certain parts of
Melbourne if he was to come here? But it won't happen, and we'll be fine.

I listened to SEN most of the day today. Severel Victorians rang up venting their anger if this was going to happen. They wouldn't mind if a marque player went to GWS but they have hatred of us. We don't have a COLA anymore but that doesn't matter to them.
