Guarantee the McVeigh indecision is about money (from both sides)
He wants over and the club is offering unders.
Doubt they will reach middle ground, but don't mind if they do.
Also possibly waiting to see if we win the flag this year and he retires a hero.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

I believe we need big body midfielders like Crisp and the Bont, although we have shied away from that the last couple of drafts.

These two player have had their injuries, so they have slip under the radar, hopefully.

      Tom McCartin and Aiden Bonar.

"The younger brother of 2014 number one overall selection, Paddy McCartin, Tom McCartin, 192cm, 86kg, who missed the 2016 season due to back and hip problems, has announced himself. McCartin collected 21 disposals, eight marks (one contested), three goals, five behinds and two score assists, turning that in against arguably the TAC Cup's premier key defender in Oscar Clavarino. This performance from McCartin follows 11 disposals, eight marks (four contested) and two goals in the first round."

      For Aiden - 190 cm, 89kgs

"He can play anywhere, but I think he's an inside midfielder. He's a beast, he kicks it really well, he's got explosive speed still. He's a booming 60-metre kick, and he hasn't lost his vertical jump. He's got an unknown factor about him."

I really feel we have been lucky with Mills and Heeny, two top three picks, but to get the most out of the present draft we need to think outside the box.
Burton from the Hawks and Witherden from Brisbane are two players who had injury in their draft years and have turn out brilliantly.
We should roll the dice, but both players have recovered from their injuries and are showing great promise in the games they are playing.
We need to think of replacements for midfielders.
Take best available imo now that Reid has re-signed. It's a very shallow draft. I agree these 2 have jumped out over the last month, especially Bonar. I'd expect both to improve in clubs calculations over the next month. I don't agree our priority is replacements for midfielders as our age bracket is very good with a couple of promising kids coming through the neafl in Florent & Dawson. IMO our need is our ruck division. Naismith could be anything but has been injury prone his whole career. Tippet just never puts in a whole season, Sinclair imo will never be a afl premiership ruckman n Cameron is more forward that the club is working on to improve his ruck work. For every Burton n Witherden these plenty more that don't work out after major injuries. With players like this the medicals n medical reports are vital information in regards to drafting. Plus lastly a lot depends where we finish.

I can see Swans moving on other players of the Marsh, Towers, Cunningham ilk to allow Macca another year and activity in the draft. We don't have a history of shafting stalwarts of the club like North or Hawthorn.

May be wrong but reading between the lines, I think he is going with a deal a la Sam Mitchell.

Small sentence about Barling from the championship

              Yep, sounds quite good.

It probably doesn't hurt to not draft anyone from the academy this year so as to quell any hysteria about it but I would like us to start drafting on average a player a year from there. Not saying any special treatment should be given but hoping the quality of the academy improves.

It would seem that a rookie list for Bell and/or Browne is the best we can hope for this year.

Not sure if it is shafting to be honest, just the reality of the game and Jared would be aware of that.

It is very rare for us to be either interested in or let a player leave when they are under contract. I like that, it's consistent behaviour that says we will honour a contract but expect that from the players too. In fact I cannot remember the last time it happened.

I guess if we get a nibble for a player we expect to be making up the numbers we may run it past them if we think it is in their interests (and we can afford to let them go) but I don't like the idea of actively shopping under contract players about, for starters I'm sure it creates quite a bit of unrest and uncertainty within the group.

As expected the SEN radio confirmed they is much interest in Aliir Aliir, particularly from Fremantle. Would hate to lose him!

He's contracted, Grundy most likely has 1 season left. Unless teams are willing to pay way overs there is little chance we let him go.

As a matter of interest, what is unders/par/overs for AA?

Would Freo's 1st round pick be an offer worth considering, if AA was OK with the trade?

I have little faith in SEN's grapevine, but I am pragmatic. If Freo were really keen, what sort of offer would be too hard to refuse?

Wouldn't get freos first for Aliir. Possible 2nd rounder at best. They'll look at Brander or Naughton who is moving up the order.

Rumour doing the rounds is that Grundy will be holding press conference at 1pm.

If true then there is only one thing that can point to.

And if that is true then I would think Aliir is going nowhere. Reg would be on reasonable money which would free some cap space, not sure whether we'd be looking at trading in a KPD or not if that is the case. I think a lot would depend on how close to senior footy Maibaum is deemed.

In the absence of Grundy leaving Freo's second rounder would tempt us I think.

He's a 20-35 trade to me. No way in our wildest dreams does freo give up pick 5 for him. Their next is pick 40 which I wouldn't take n would prefer to keep if that's the best that got offered. One good year does not give you a first rounder. On Grundy the rumour reportedly comes from SEN so I'd be taking it with a grain of salt.

This is all purely idle speculation but if we did get their second rounder (23) I wonder if we could bundle it with our second rounder to get another first round pick. Brisbane might be open to trading their first rounder from Port if it means generating some second round picks for both a bid for Cameron (think Pick 23 would get that job done) with our second rounder adding some points that they'll need for Ballenden from their academy.

It will be really interesting to see how the Lions play the trade period. If I was a Lions fan I'd be really excited about them right now, crazy given their ladder position but they have done a great job the last 12 months. I would not be surprised to see them trade pick 1 to St Kilda for picks 7, 8 and a bit of change. It's just so risky for an interstate club like them to put all their eggs in one basket. A dude (and he looks like a right Dude) like Rayner carries so much less risk for a St Kilda than Brisbane and the Sainters need a quality draftee after choosing McCartin over Petracca (what were they thinking) and Billings of the Bont in recent years
