Trade Day 1 meet n greet all done with and absolutely no Swans news. Suggests we are not trading this year unless it's doing something shifty with picks to assist other clubs to get deals done.

I see that North has given up on getting rid of any of their ruckmen. They have 3. A ruckman is harder to unload than a pet rock. Apparently the word hasn't gotten out yet that we have 4 ruckmen on our list, because the sound of hysterical laughter hasn't reach Chiang Rai yet.
The 1st anniversary of King Bhumiphol's death is on Friday and I think all comedy and joke telling is banned for the following 2 weeks until his cremation (true). I may have to go into an induced coma to get through it.Comment

I'm sorry, I can't find the link, but some idiot at the SMH thinks we should get Libba.
He must be a very young journalist and wasn't around when Libba Snr tried to steal Paul Kelly's royal jewels.
The sins of the father and all that....Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

I'm pretty sure that the club is keen on him, but I think that he's more keen on other clubs than he is on ours. Horse and Harley had lunch with him today in a bayside restaurant/cafe.Comment

You definitely didn't get a mauling from me. I've been in favour of the Mitchell trade all along and probably was its strongest advocate. I haven't changed my tune on this one.
We've got Tippett, Sinclair, Cameron and Pink. How many more backup forwards do we need playing in the reserves? If we play Aliir in defence, then Reid wouldn't have to drop back as he does. I wouldn't exactly call the situation urgent. Since Tippett and Sinclair look unlikely to be going anywhere, we are out of the market for Watts. Not bothered at all about that.
It sounds most likely that Watts is going to PA, which objectively looks to be the best destination for him.Comment

As I said earlier, Heeney would be a genuine full forward in the modern mould. Not a tall but takes a strong mark in all situations. Would cause a lot of problems to opposition coaches and with Papley and Hayward snapping at their feet......look out. Those others you have listed have been everything but consistent. We need something different up forward. Buddy CHF and Heeney FF are formidable key forwards.
I agree that Heeney is a good forward option, but probably not permanent. We have a lot of midfielders who are strong marks and good kicks for goal, like Parker and Kennedy. Hewett and Lloyd, not quite as strong markers, but very accurate kicks from inside 40.
Hopefully we see a lot of Dawson next year, who can kick goals from outside 50.
We actually have a very good goal kicking team and should put more emphasis on our offence instead of just letting the ball come inside our defensive zone just to show off how good our defence is.Comment

Our forward line of Franklin, Reid, Rohan, Papley and Hayward look fine to me. Then you have other players rotating from the midfield. The other players I mentioned in my previous post are just depth players and don't expect to see them in the seniors much except to cover for injuries.

I beg to disagree old wise one. Parker, Kennedy are genuine mids not suited up forward apart from short stints, and Hewett is used in a tagging role. Heeney is very much the Jack Riewolt type and better. Rohan can keep his forward spot as a decoy but he and Reid do not bring consistency. 3 talls up forward hasn't worked any where near consistently and to me is a glaring weakness.
I see the big 4 on-ball group for the next few years as JPK, Parker, Heeney and Hewett. We have a lot of others who will rotate through, but those are the main ones.
What we need to do with the forward line is get more production out of Rohan. Putting another high production player like Heeney forward just cuts into Rohan's game. Heeney is a very strong mark, but Rohan is better on the lead because of his pace and leap.
Jack Riewoldt is 10 cm taller than Heeney and can take a high mark. I don't think Heeney makes a better KPF than Jack. Remember that Jack has won a couple of Coleman's so has proven he can do the job.
We have enough guys who can kick goals. We just need to get the ball to players in good goal kicking positions more often.Comment

It seems like you would be looking for some major goal kicking production from Heeney. I think it's difficult for anyone to do that as long as Buddy is there. He's always going to be the go to guy, and why not. Heeney is a genuine midfielder with a good all around game. He belongs on the ball, rotating forward with the rest of the midfield group.

Rohan should be on the trade table.
Comes across as a lovely guy, good team man...And some of his, all too rare, highlights are superb....but...
I'm yet to see him help lift the team, in big games, when things aren't going well...He goes with the flow.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment
