Damien Barrett said McVeigh may play for another club next year with 2 years coaching after that, like Sam Mitchell.
Also said he has one of the smartest footy brains going around.
What are your sentiments regarding this scenario? Hope if this is true he doesn't go the GWS (his brother is there).

I'd imagine McVeigh will almost certainly end up coaching somewhere, he's been doing it for years already on the
field. The GWS backline may welcome a different voice to Heath Shaw's yelling at them non-stop for 120 minutes
      every week.

It would not surprise me if he went to another club. I think aspiring coaches move around to see how things are done differently at other clubs.

Otherwise he has spent all his career at the Swans under two head coaches. And he has only experienced consistent success.

          Say it ain't so!!

But the reality is we can't have every ex-player on our coaching staff. Some stay (Crouch, Playfair, Shaw etc) come back (Kirky) some stay away (O'Keefe) but I'll remember them all for their time with the Swans - be it 300 games or one game.

Terrible to have constant success. Although I guess that's what every team strives for (and no one achieves - America went close with the America's Cup, Centrals had a pretty good run in the SANFL)

I think as a coach it would have been educational to be at a club like Brisbane over the past few seasons. Where morale is low and they don't know when the next win is coming. Or seeing a gradual rebuild at teams like Carlton or Melbourne.

If Reid stays then I would prefer to go for two latter first round draftees as mids.

If Reid goes then Tippett stays, our only option will be to try and get a serviceable season or two out of him as a stay at home full forward. I'd start to trying to get some of that beef off him that makes him so statue like on the field, have a look at the way he moved at Adelaide and how he moves now and it is chalk and cheese
I wasn't sold on Brander till I saw him live playin defence here in WA and then the game yesterday against the best side in the under championship sold it for me. I honestly just don't think Tippet will play a full season ever. I don't think he'll leave. The thing with the kpp is that it'll take 3 years before they play consistent good footy so by time that happens Tippet will probably be gone, Reid will be going on 29 n Franklin will be an aging star. To me it makes very good sense in that if Blakey decides to nominate Sydney by the time Brander n Blakey are playing good consistent footy both Reid n Franklin have seen there best days plus I'll add imo I think it's a shallow draft. Bit like there year we traded a lot out to end up with a few 1st rounds picks in McVeigh, Bolton & Fitzgerald.

Was Fosdike, not McVeigh. McVeigh wasn't drafted for another four years.

I am not sure Brander will slide to our pick. I saw the Allies vs VicMetro game on foxfooty. Brander kicked a few goals and took a lot of important contested marks. After that game I think less chance he will be overlooked for other forwards like Stephenson, Sutherland and Hayes.

If we miss out I wonder if we take a gamble on a less rated player like Hugh Dixon or Oscar Allen as more of a 2nd tall forward.

I can honestly say that my sentiments regarding Damien Barrett were beautifully summed up on SEN this morning by Neil Balme. Basically that he is a self-promoter who virtually makes stories up, announcing them on late night footy shows, to generate news articles for himself.

It was music to my ears to finally hear a respected footy voice slay this bloke who does little more than spread rumours.

Having said all that, that McVeigh talk was around and even mentioned on here a week or so ago. I would rather he retire a one-club player but if he feels he has another year and the club doesn't, then good luck to him!

It's why I said bundle the pick we'd get for either Jones or Reid, if either left, with our first to trade up the order. From what I've heard about Dixon in tassie is that he doesn't have the mobility or toughness when moved out of ff when playing against players of his size. When playing under 18 he kills it. I'm up in the air with Allen. I'm not advocating picking Brander as your 2nd tall forward. By the time he matures he would share the number 1 duties with Blakey

If true I wouldn't see why it's such a disaster. You let him go with your blessings. He'd be leaving to further his career after footy just like Mitchell & Johnson.

I'll also add imo if Jones left n we wanted to take a mid with the pick we got I'd rather trade it for Hopper. It'd be around pick 12-15 in imo Hopper is miles in front of anyone that'll be taken around that pick. Hopper would probably be prepared to come then knowing there is a good chance at midfield time without Jones there.
