Or the only way to get a kick in the 2's is to play forward because they have a % over 200.Comment

The Lions just secured their 3rd win. They are only one win behind North.
I would hate for a Victorian club to finish last. It's puts them in line to secure Reid or Jones for nothing in the pre-season draft.
The Lions look a good young developing side. Their young key position talent at both ends looks very promising.Comment

Their list is still very poor but they do have some decent talent. They'll hopefully get Pick 1 and then pick up Ballenden who is a good tall. So that has Schache, Hipwood, Bellenden Gardiner and Andrews as making up a good spine - IF they can keep that together it forms a decent base. McCluggage they desperately want to keep and add in Pick 1 this year to form the base of the midfield for the future. I like the look of Berry who I fancied for us but I'm happy with Olly
I agree that they have the base of a half decent side but the problem will be keeping these kids.Comment

Brisbane won't use Pick 1 on Ballenden if that's what you meant Mug. They will pick the best at Pick 1 (currently a Dusty lookalike) and match Ballenden when he is bid on. Think Brisbane have a strong hand early in the draft with pick 1, pick 15 from Geelong and pick 18. Remember GWS don't have a first rounder which they were penalised for the Whitfield drug avoidance so First Round is only 17 picks before any Compo Picks.
Brisbane starting to get kids to re-sign so think they will rise up the ladder next year but North will surely win at least once again so given the % equation as well, Brisbane would need to win 3 in the run home to North only 1, or 4 and 2, can't see it happening. Brisbane to win the spoon.Last edited by 707; 2 July 2017, 08:44 PM.Comment

On ABC radio this morning they were discussing Collingwood's interest in Sam Reid. Jake Niall mentioned that the dropped Ben Reid wasn't taking to his demotion too nicely and it may have an impact on the Pies' pursuit of Sam.Comment

I just saw the jones interview, not sure how some people are saying he is gone from that interview. I am not sure he will stay but that interview didnt lead me to think he has already turned his back on the swans just yet.

Next year is a big big year for the Lions. If they can get to 5 wins I think that gives them something to build on. Add three more elite draftees and suddenly you get the bones of a decent team. It's just a matter if they can keep the group together and to do so they really need to show a bit next year I thinkComment

Niall said that on the Saturday Agenda programme too. Also said, Ben Reid aside, that Sam was likely to stay in Sydney.Comment

Zak still strikes me as guarded in media interviews, generally. Longmire seems pretty confident Zak is staying (referred to him as a young leader of the club on Monday), which I regard indicative.Comment

Thanks 707, yep I know that. Rayner is the kid you refer to I think. Ballenden they'll get for points (say top 10 though he does seem to be slipping) so you'd think they'll still get one additional first rounder.

wins.
Pick 1 for an upcoming team like Brisbane on 5 wins will be very handy. If you could get the Beam boys going they still have a reasonable midfield. Pick two for a team who finishes 2nd last on 7 wins is also very valuable. A 7 win season in not awful.
This season is really close but I can only imagine that it will be closer next year.Comment

One thing that cynical me was wondering, while watching a small bit of the Hawks and Pies: would Hawthorn still be keen on winning games, if they hadn't already traded away next year's first round pick? Or would some of their injured players, already be undergoing surgery and embarking on rehabilitation programs for next year, while Clarkson develops a great deal of curiosity, about which of their untried players can stand up to the rigours of seniors?Comment
