All the other teams a well aware of his failings..the main question is what sort of return could we expect for him.spriteComment

Gary Rohan is under contract until 2020, same as Tippo. As preposterous as it may sound, the club is probably committed to getting them both through a solid preseason with the hope that they can both perform at their best in 2018. The risk is currently with the Swans and it's doubtful that another club would be willing to relieve us of that risk or their contracts.
I will try to stay positive about this, since there's not much point in an angst ridden off season.Comment

We have 28 players on our list who were drafted in the past 5 years. Plus there are 3 others now playing for other clubs. That's an incredible hit rate. What's the incentive to chase players from other clubs with that sort of record. And it also means we have a lot of players to process through our development system.
I wonder what Sam Murray would be worth in a trade. Would an upgrade from our pick 49 for Collingwood's pick 36 do the trick? How about a 2018 3rd rounder? I wouldn't let him go for nothing.Comment

Yes we have drafted reasonable well the last few years bit so have others. Richmond proved this year that being aggressive at trade time when you think you are around the premiership mark works!
We can sit on our hands and feel good about ourselves coming back from 0 and 6 while we watch our other premiership rivals get stronger (Geelong, Essendon, Port and others) by being aggressive at the trade table.
We last won a flag in 2012 and have been there at the end on 2 occasions since where we were embarrassed once and lost a golden opportunity the other. Year after year we have been rated as favorites to do it all again but have failed in finals with a list thats supposed to be the envy of most other clubs.
Yes players like Watts and a couple of others have been somewhat underwhelming so far in their careers. But I'd rather see a player of his talents in our side than against us come finals time next year because if we don't be aggressive now, in 5 or so years time we'll be farewelling the likes of Hanners and Co. wondering what could have been with a list that's been oh so close but not quite good enough when it counts!
Come on Swans!, get aggressive these next 2 weeks so we can have a real crack at winning the big one in 2018, not just play finals again!

The salary cap and list limits make player movements a zero sum game. If something good comes in the door, something good usually has to go out. I'm glad we went big for Buddy Franklin. It was a great coup, but it did come with some cost of loss of players. Players changing clubs are usually looking for big contracts, especially when several clubs are bidding for their services, as you would expect with good players.
The best players looking to trade clubs this year, Watts, Stringer and Motlop, all come with baggage and shortcomings. It's far from clear that any player looking to change clubs is going to make much of a positive impact for the Swans next year.
All the players that played in our last game are either walk up starters or seriously challenging for our best 22. Add to that Melican, Hayward, Florent, Aliir and Dawson to kick off a list of players that will be looking to make the 22 and seem to have the ability to do so. A choice has to be made about giving these players an opportunity versus bringing in a Watts or a Motlop. All those players mentioned wouldn't be on half the salary of either Watts or Motlop, which is something to take into consideration.
If getting Buddy Franklin wasn't enough of a difference to win a premiership, I doubt if any of these malcontents will do the trick.Comment

Not sure how many of the active traders will actually have net gains as they mostly are losing a player or two as well.
Unless there is a player available that really fits a deficiency you are better off going to the draft. I agree we have a number of highly promising players to fit into the 22, just not sure how we do it and that's without trading anyone in.
Sam Fisher being chased by the Pies? We'll need to upgrade him to hold them off if they are serious in their chase.Comment
