Over the years, who have been the delisted free agents that have gone on to have the most success after being picked up by another club?

Delisted free agency hits and misses in the AFL

This article comes close to answering your question, though I am not sure that all those "hits" were really delisted free agents in spirit (even if they were technically).

I am pretty sure Membrey was offered another contract by the Swans but they delisted him as a favour so that he could directly join the Saints, rather than have to wait to go through the draft. And Roberton also had the promise of a place at the Saints when he was delisted out of courtesy by Freo.

I don't know if similar arrangements applied to Hamling and/or Robinson. I suspect not in the latter case but maybe there did for Hamling.

      Laidler was a true DFA.

As you can see, the list of successes, even including the not-really-DFAs, is pretty short.

That assumes his pay averaged around $200K per year throughout his five years with us, three at North and two at the Suns.
Maybe a little on the high side but if he was paid that much he was effectively paid $23K per disposal or about $8K per hitout
        whilst playing in the AFL.

I am not surprised at Elex Johnson being delisted from the main list and maybe coming back to Rookie list
Sam Fisher also gone - he was small but I thought a real goer

I have the feeling that Craig Bolton was delisted by the Lions?

I am slightly surprised by the Johnson decision in that it suggests the club is looking to either draft 4 players in the ND (one with a very late pick) or that they have their eye on a DFA.

AJ was always likely to be demoted to rookie list. So that's five seniors off, Melican on, we'll only take three draft picks so we are either eyeing a delisted player or another rookie upgrade is imminent.

Sam Fisher, is that a surprise to the ressie watchers? I thought he was going ok, but maybe the club feels he has hit his ceiling.

Other clubs continue to delist, some of them have a heap of vacancies. Carlton has now made 41 or 42 list changes in the last three off seasons!

I love AJ, but how long do you want to carry him for?
If only his knees were stronger...
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Also very surprised about Fisher. Does that mean Ronke is rated higher?
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!

I'm shocked about Sam Fisher. I hope they decide to keep him another year. I thought he was the best of our 1st year players and was more often than not in our best . I would think. I'm not sure what part of his game they didn't like. He's a 2 way player and a good decision maker. Maybe a bit inconsistent with his disposal, but could be very sharp as well. He's slower than both Ronke and Fox, who are both on the quick side. I don't know who he would make way for on the rookie list, especially Cat B rookies. He was clearly better than Jake Brown, Bell and Hardman.

I found the comment by Tom Harley odd that the decision on AJ was based on Team Balance. If you're thinking of delisting a player, what does that have to do with team balance? A club that has 4 ruckman isn't worried about team balance. Maybe it's a continuation of the new team structure which saw Melican dropped for the Geelong final. Perhaps the new team balance doesn''t require key defenders.

There was an oddity in the article on DFA Hits and Misses. Tom Derickx is listed at the bottom of the Misses. Surely this can't be true. We've seen him in action. The last sentence in the article says: Retired early last month. 2017 never really felt quite right to me and this just confirms it. I also read an article the Donald Trump was the leader of the free world. Maybe I will wake up on January 1st and it will 2017 all over again, but this time with a few better outcomes.

That article was written a year ago.

Maybe Harley should have said or actually meant "list balance". That would make more sense. I sincerely hope AJ makes it back but my hopes are diminishing.

That 'team balance' reference in the article on the Swans site was not a direct quote and it didn't bear any resemblance to the direct quotes. It's a bit odd.

I thought the medical and conditioning assessment might be more telling.
