I genuinely believe that the Bye before the finals provides the ridiculous situation where the teams finishing 1-4 who win their first final are at a disadvantage. Barring a massive injury list recovery, playing their most important game of the season (the Prelim) with only one game in three weeks is insane.
Yes, and I've also wondered if the finals going for an extra week, has given the sides that didn't make the finals last year, a bit more of an advantage this year? Especially against the sides that played throughout the finals: us and the Bulldogs. Since one season is not really enough to test the proposition, I haven't bothered looking up the stats, but maybe this time next year?

Winning the Premiership after a 0-6 start would be a fairytale.......but we all know how the AFL likes fairytales!

Red, white and blue fairytales. If the Swans are going to win the flag, they'll have to do it without help (if history is any indication).

The thing with fairytales is you have to believe....

An interesting image. We'll have to get Ludwig onto that one.

"Sydney?s march into the eight has been frightening. They are more unrelenting at the moment than promos for Australian Ninja Warrior. The Swans were without Josh Kennedy, but it didn?t even matter. They made the Suns look like amateurs, which is what many of their players deserve to be paid like. . . .
It?s time we had a serious talk down here in Melbourne. What can we blame the Swans success on now? We?ve already taken away COLA and given them a trade ban.
Perhaps it?s time to crank up the old academy excuse. Over to you Eddie, you need a distraction at the moment."

After going 0-6, I was convinced the season was done. To be fair, at that stage they had to make history just to make the 8.

But after what we've seen over the last 2 months of footy, I believe that this team can do anything. They'll make the 8 and do some major damage in the finals, who knows how far they'll go.

Maybe they could use the excuse, that Melbourne based players have a much higher level of media scrutiny, than those in Sydney. To rectify the situation, perhaps Eddie could be given a new show, in which he and Brian Taylor, attempt to give credence to every internet rumour and conspiracy theory that involves Swans players.

LOL . Seriously, how does Eddie survive as president. Protected species in Melbourne - got everyone bluffed by his BS.

Maybe an expanded version of "Roaming Brian", whereby Taylor is given free rein to wander around the houses of Swans players - picking through their rubbish bins, rummaging through their underwear drawers, and exploring what's hiding in the back of their fridges. Would provide a whole new level of "fan engagement", providing thought provoking insights into our players' lives that the mainstream media fails to deliver...

Over the years Eddie has talked himself up a bit, essentially about how much money he has brought into
the club, and having seen the Daewoo Centre for Excellence or whatever that thing besides the Yarra
is called, I guess it's remotely possible that he is quite good at passing the hat around. That would help
him survive as president you would think. Maybe it's just being in Sydney, but Eddie has seemed quiet this
year by his usual exalted standards. Possibly with only one team from the northern states in the 8 for first
two thirds of the season, he thought he had achieved a personal KPI and it was time to relax on one of his
mate's yachts in Europe somewhere. But with West Coast having the temerity of losing yesterday and letting
us back into the 8, we could be hearing from him soon I reckon.

Ummm, maybe you should delete that: it's just too easy to see it becoming a reality. Just needs a catchy name. Too Much Brian Is Never Enough? Player, Commentator, Stalker? Brian In Your Bathroom? Oh FFS, Go Home, BT!?

Good assessment KT. It has been quiet on the Eddie front this year and it is easy to get the feeling it might be the calm before the storm. For sanity's sake, let's hope not!

Back to discussing the Finals, winning tomorrow will put us in the box seat. If we lose then we are 50/50 at best. 12 wins could make the 8 but from my predictions league it is iffy. We lose tomorrow and we have to go 5-1 on the way home to be on 13 wins including away trips to Adelaide and Geelong. Essendon have won well tonight and have a dream run home.

So, there should be no illusions about how important tomorrow despite the achievement of us being back in the frame.

St Kilda have a difficult run home:

                                Rd 18: Sydney (SCG)
Rd 19: Port Adelaide (Adelaide Oval)
Rd 20: West Coast (Etihad Stadium)
                                Rd 21: Melbourne (MCG)
Rd 22: North Melbourne (Etihad Stadium)
                                Rd 23: Richmond (MCG)

None are easy games. They won't win more than three of them. Our game against them may decide which side makes the finals.
