Ahhh, at the end of the round, we are eighth. No more of the dark days of early in the season, when we had to answer questions about whether we could make the eight, with some sort of muttering about mathematical possibilities.
Can we make the eight? We're in the eight!

Beat GWS next week and we stay in the 8 but move up - just do it!

All well and good we are in the 8 but the season starts again now, if we're good enough over the next 7 weeks we'll be playing finals.

I think 12 wins will jag a spot with our % and if we can't win 4 out of the last 7 games we don't deserve to be there anyway.

Sure there is absolutely zero complacency in the camp

We are a genuine chance to beat them. Suddenly it's very exciting. We are capable of matching it with anyone.

Top four is still a mathematical possibility if we win six or seven games and a few other results go our way.

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves though. We have just about the toughest four away games to come of any team in the competition: GWS, Geelong and Adelaide - the current top three. We can win though - GWS are vulnerable due to injuries, and we beat Geelong and Adelaide the last time we played them (in last year's finals). The other away game is Hawthorn, a side we lost to last time we played. Our home games are St Kilda, Fremantle and Carlton. St Kilda were very ominous against Richmond, and Carlton also beat us last time we played.

We're virtually playing finals every week. But if the unlikely happens, and we go all the way, the memes would look something like this:

2005 Semi Final: How's this for an epic comeback?

                    2017 season: Hold my beer

It's a massive help to get through winter in the man cave and avoid The Voice and Mastercook in the Lounge room with her indoors. It's freezing in the cave , but I'm lovin at the moment.
Oops , gotta get those tiks for Spitless Stadium. It's Ticketmaster isn't it ?

This may sound crazy but I'd prefer 5th or 6th with a home final.

I genuinely believe that the Bye before the finals provides the ridiculous situation where the teams finishing 1-4 who win their first final are at a disadvantage. Barring a massive injury list recovery, playing their most important game of the season (the Prelim) with only one game in three weeks is insane.

I am sure that the talk around the footy club will be the old adage 'one week at a time'.
I love this football club. No talk of 'tanking' to get higher draft picks.
They go out in every game to win.

This used to be the usual way finals were played when the Final Four was in effect. The four finals were played over four weeks, in this order:

Week 1: First Semi Final, 3rd vs 4th - Loser eliminated, winner advances to Preliminary Final in week 3
Week 2: Second Semi Final, 1st vs 2nd - Winner to Grand Final, loser to Preliminary Final
Week 3: Preliminary Final - First Semi Final winner vs Second Semi Final loser - winner to Grand Final.
                            Week 4: Grand Final

The winner of the Second Semi Final only plays a final in Week 2 and Week 4.

A similar situation could occur with the Final Five (also played over four weeks) - the team on top of the ladder had the first week off, and if they won the Second Semi final they had the third week off as well.

Overall, these breaks did not seem to have any detrimental effect on winning the Premiership.

I just played around with the ladder predictor and it seems to me that the biggest game will be the one against the Saints. That is the biggest 8 point game of the year.

If ... everyone else seems to be handing out 'coach of the year' awards long before they need to ...

Then ... we may as well join in, too. Our man, after 14 matches, is Longmire. At 0-6 it would've been sooooo easy, like so many before him, to roll over and work toward a great draft pick. Instead, he was still obsessed with another flag THIS year.
