When you put it like that it almost beggars belief. Is it possible that the Swans problem with Hawthorn is as much mental as tactical?

It is easy to get inward focussed and overestimate the quality of a player group (at a particular point in time), or alternatively, underestimate other clubs lists. I agree we have a good list but to some degree it is a list in transition with lots of young players playing important roles which will produce inconsistent results.

Stating we have a better list than a particular club and should beat them on that basis doesn't always hold true. This is one of the great things about following football, even if it feels crap when the team that you support has had an underwhelming start to the season. Additionally, when a team beats us who we think has an inferior list, it may not solely be the fault of the head coach.

Despite these points, I agree with the points being made about a need to address the Swans tactics against teams who adopt the style of play that Hawthorn did last week.
Like everyone else here, it frustrates the hell out of me to see the opposition move the ball with no pressure and also our players being so concentrated in defence playing an ultra conservative zone that when we win the ball there is almost no option to successfully move it forward.

Like all who post here, I hope for Swans success, but I personally don't think that sacking a successful coach will help and it would be detrimental to maintaining the stability that has been the foundation of this club's long term success.

            Cheer, Cheer.
Well he'd want to start changing tactics really quickly and developing a new plan. Alternatively he could just develop tactics that are interchangeable and can be changed very easily, like the better teams do now. I think Longmire has been left behind in the wake of the new game. The newer attacking edge. He seems to be a follower not a leader in the tactic stakes. He had one win on tactics in 2012, the sling shot, ever since then he has been exploited in big games, now we are exploited almost every game. Our game a built solely on defence, that is why we have trouble scoring, when we should be kicking many more goals. We have some really top line forwards but the way we play makes it very difficult for them. Our score per forward entry is the worst in the competition and has been down there for years. The reason for this is that so many times we have nobody in attack on a rebound and rely solely on sling shot. We also bomb a lot, a very defensive style instead of the lead up and kick game, which is a very attacking tactic. We crowd the forward line instead of opening it up. Again a very defensive move relying on crumbing to score. If the opposition has top line crumbing backs you are in trouble.

In all I think Longmire has got to come up with something different for the second half of the season or he might as well resign. We play such a defensive style that it can be really ugly and look very unskilled. Our players look slow because other sides are opening us up. We aren't slow, our zone is @@@@ing useless. We lose far too many stoppages and end up playing catch up footy because we defend first and then attack. We should be attacking first and then defending. the fast break out of the centre has the capacity to shock an opposition and get quick scores. Somehow this seems beyond Longmire, his coaching team and our players, although I believe it is the stoppages tactics that are not working.

I'm certainly not as upbeat about going to to the footy on a cold night on my bicycle to watch the team play the same old way , especially at the SCG which should be a fortress like Skilled Stadium or whatever they currently call it is to the Cats.
Opposing teams are now working the Swans over at home.

I haven't been to a game recently but supposedly teams (Hawks, Pies) use the width of the SCG to unpick our "zone".

I can't imagine Luke Bevo won't have watched the Hawks game, so this will be a test to see whether the Swans and their coaches have come up with a solution or not?

It will be interesting to see happens, because it's not the kind of game plan that Bevo likes to play. We also should keep in mind that whatever they've been doing against us has been working, so why change?

Like waiting for us to get the ball and then winning a free for either holding the ball or incorrect disposal?

Some of the comments about Horse on here have been unbelievable in both their ignorance and lack of respect.

Obviously Bulldogs fans will be screaming for Bevos head after he was smacked by our 'washed up' and 'useless coach'

Looked to me like we got rid of the zone defense and went more man on man. Longmire has finally woken up from 2012.
