+ 1 His best game since the prelim against the Shinboners in 2014 (which he played from half back rather than up the ground). His pressure game was terrific with consistent second and third efforts. If he had kicked straight?and he usually does?he would have been in top 5 on ground. The forward set up looked very good: Buddy staying down when Reid jumped, rather than spoiling each other. O Flo not there, so Hayward in for him next week if fit. I also though the one ruckman strategy paid off; against the Dons there were too many passages when Naismith and Sinclair were both on the ground lumbering around the midfield. I think that we sometimes forget that Naismith has only played 22 games! We also need to note Kizza's great game last night. Brilliant tackling and some neat kicks. Really impressive game across the park (except for kicking), and it feels like there is some good depth in the list now, particularly in the back half: Aliir, Marsh, the forgotten Laidler and Talia and, dare I say, AJ, across the back. I wonder how/whether Tippett will be able to break into the team at all: the team seems better balanced without the extra big. And I suspect that the Foote experiment might be over.

not correct. Rohan kicked 4 in a low scoring game against the Hawks last year at the scg. He was the only one who seemed able to mark anything that night.

The signs were there for him last night just lacked the composure to finish his good work.

Bugg coward punched a Swan in an incident which had it happened on the street would have resulted in charges of Intentionally Causing Injury. What did the umpire expect Papley to do?

Papley was the one to describe it as a dog act after the game too.

Not sure how the umpires should have handled it. We lost a player, then a goal and 80m because of the retaliation.

Bugg was anonymous for the rest of the game.

Smith limping badly as he hobbled to the team bus this morning. Mills still looked dazed so that's two we could be missing next week and Jones sure to come under MRP scrutiny but he will have a defence in that he could only see out of one eye and therefore had no perception of depth when he clipped the Dees player and Jones was just running straight at the ball.

So at worse we might be down Mills, Smith & Jones. Some openings there for ressie players - like Dawson!

Commentators on Seven agreed with you. They all thought it was very poor umpiring to overturn a free from a reportable offense that would have given us a 50m penalty and a shot for goal.....potential 12 point turn around. Where's the justice and common sense. The umpires have NO common sense or 'footy sense' for that matter...

Everyone at Melbourne has said that Bugg's actions "are not what we stand for".

If Melbourne really meant that, they would have voluntarily removed Bugg from the game at Quarter time and played one less on the bench. That would have equaled things up with the Swans.

I thought Georgie Hewitt had reached another level last night. He seemed to have so much time or made good decisions quickly. He seems to have reached that level of confidence where he will back himself. I suspect he remains underrated by opposition teams.

My initial reading was '@@@@ing weak @@@@' (but I was watching it with the idea that they were looking at a screen showing the incident (I suppose I was projecting, to some extent). You may be right.

It's all about decreasing the penalty at the Tribunal. He will get 5-6 and in all honesty he's only an ordinary footballer and wouldn't be in Melbourne's best 25 so be interesting to see if he gets back into seniors. Melbourne wouldn't have been happy with that after Hogan, Lewis and Vince have all been done for striking this season as well.
