Giving Langdon 600K is a smack in the face for Grundy/Smooch/Alir/Melican
He isn't a bonafide top defender in that id take 50 in the comp before him
We did have good success with teddy/matter etc etc but didn't sell the house to "bring them in"Comment

Agree again it’s a little bitter on the first taste.......but the market is fairly flammable to get what u want
If u don’t get what u want it’s a slide right now and our trade window is very much this season I feel and then go back in for more youth next year
To be able to dilute a pick 13 into more points via two later picks like 24 and 25 for our advantage yet still get a pick 13 player due to academy favour is huge
I think shifts our focus to a really good early pick in Blakey plus trades to fill in for players we have lost and will end of next year like macca , Grundy , jack maybe ?
Langdon is more of future wing HBF as he definitely improves our transitions and allows us more flexibility with jones and mills rotating thru the midfield and a player like Langdon at which $500k pa is about right at least is my guessLast edited by Auntie.Gerald; 9 October 2018, 04:20 PM."be tough, only when it gets tough"

I read this morning (on the AFL site trade hub thingy) that the Dogs are also interested in Duryea?? Haven't heard anything since...It's not one I'll be losing sleep over.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Agree I would take better then Duryea but I’m not sure who else fills the void on the left
I think our left footed entries into our forward line look weak at the moment especially in comparison to other top teams who appear more balanced with their exit flexibility and entry options on the left
Rampe - busy in defence
Smith - busy in defence
Jack - tagging a lot
We need better then having no real left footed transition player available now
To deliver more points on the scoreboard we need to deliver high quality passes into our forward line and especially given bud loves that left side and so do right footers when kicking for goal
Obviously we use buddy a fair bit on the left wing also when we have decent targets up front - which is only half the yearLast edited by Auntie.Gerald; 9 October 2018, 04:44 PM."be tough, only when it gets tough"

Is anyone getting slightly frustrated at how long it is taking to get these deals actually done? I mean, these players actually want to go, St Kilda and Geelong actually want them......how long do they all need FFS?Comment

Rohan will get done but is a low priority.
I do hope the Hanners trade is a “gateway” trade for the Swans.Comment

Didn't Harley say that it would take a few days to get them done. I seem to remember this Thursday being mentioned. I can't remember where I heard this.Comment

Yeah I think seeing how much pick 13 is really worth is key right now
Ie waiting to see what might be offered and or waiting to see if we can get a great deal using pick 13"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Seriously though, he obviously has a toe injury (I don't even know on which foot it is....does anyone?) which was bad enough for him to miss an entire season but progress updates and predictions from the club of his chances of playing next year have been sadly lacking.....and being our highest draft pick last year, you would think the fans might be interested.

I just don't see the point in retaining Rose - he's the sort of player (if he were to make it) who you have to give some regular senior football to and persevere with, through some poor performances and up-and-down form. But going on history there is just no way in hell Longmire is going to do that (rightfully or wrongfully) - he'll get 1-2 games at best and if he doesn't play well it will be back to the NEAFL to dominate there for a few months.
IMO has to have a massive summer, play the first few games next year and play very well, and might be able to consolidate a spot from there. But anything less than that and he's probably a wasted spot on the list again.
PS. I assume Ludwig's reference to Rose getting another based on the quote from Blakey re: Rose's NEAFL GF performance, saying that made them excited about what he could do in 2019.
1. They are each capable of playing 1st grade for a week or two without being a complete liability and, on their day, can contribute some excellent football to help us to a win when injuries have mounted. They have each been in the system long enough to know what is expected of them in certain situations.
2. Our young NEAFL players need to develop around these sorts of players. There is no point having a reserve side each week like we did in the NEAFL GF as it will stymie the progress of our rookies, young draftees, and academy top ups.
Their value would involve being able to fill these roles while taking up only a small amount of salary cap. I suspect Grundy may also be used in this same role.
I can imagine the conversations:
Harley - We've asked all other clubs and no one is interested. We can delist you and you can try your luck with Sydney Uni, or go and play VFL, SANFL, or WAFL. You can get a job in real estate or find another career........ OR you can be paid $150k to play NEAFL with us. If things go your way, you may have a chance to play in the 1s. What do you think?Comment

I stayed off the forum a fair bit last 7 days until today ....... now I am So fired up
we have a really good opportunity to add serious competition for spots, serious depth to get thru a long season which most teams including us struggled with injuries last season -serious depth gives u another possible 2 wins which is massive mid season or on the way home
The downside of a lack of serious depth is loosing 2 games we can’t afford to drop and missing out on the top8
Potential for landing picks 22/25/33/38/50/67 and future picks next year
These picks can land us a fairly comprehensive improvement in our list:
24 & 25 for pick 13 to Carlton
24 to Collingwood for Langdon might work (can play the loose man in defence, reads the play really well for cutting off play or for transitions or push upfield - let’s mills go back to midfield HBF rotation like his whole junior career/important)
25 and 33 for Blakey definitely works even up to pick 6 or 7 ?
38 we can use in the draft or trade but I would use for a Ruckman?
50 received maybe from the cats for Rohan and then trade pick 50 to Melbourne for Vandenberg to come to Sydney
67 we have currently and no use accept in a deal for a player trade such D.Clarke
Newman to north and R.Clarke to us
Duryea out of contract and maybe a pick ?
* Saints give us a first round pick next year 2019 if not a significant player comes to us from St Kilda OR
* Saints trade us a reasonably significant player like P.mcartin or Newnes plus a late 3rd round pick next year or this year
Either way hannes gives us a lot of $ to diversify our roster
——-
most importantly I think we will be very competitive again if we get the players we are talking about now to trade as they are solid players and most likely a few who could flourish in our best 22 and important contributors to our structure and roles needed
This depth will allow our emerging players to be managed thru 2019 accordingly ie if T.McCartin, Hayward , ronke , Mills , Ollie , Melican, AA , Dawson, Oriordan, Ling and Stoddart push ahead in their development via strong depth in our squadLast edited by Auntie.Gerald; 9 October 2018, 07:08 PM."be tough, only when it gets tough"
