We won't be screwed. This is the most likely outcome and always has been. It's only because we may not make finals and hence a a better 1st round pick than expected that an opportunity opens to get another top 10 player. But a lot has fall into place to make that happen. Blakely looks to be around a pick 7 at this stage, with a range between 5 and 12.
As we slip down the ladder there's a possibility that we could deal for pick 3 that they take as compo for Lynch. Lloyd & currently pick 10 but could end up 8 or 9 for pick 3. We get a potential gun at pick 3 (add Izak Rankine to the forward mix?) and still have enough points (picks 28, 34, 64 and falling) this year to fully cover a Blakey bid from as low as pick 6.
Also gives us cap space if Lloyd departs for the much bigger GC $. Everything will be looked at this year.Comment

I think we need an experienced player in there next year. If it isn’t Miles, who is it?Comment

They might say no. And take their chances in the PSD. I don’t think they’ll be chucking pick 2 away again. Also given their need for players not picks they might try and force Richmond / Pies to trade a player rather than take the compensation pick. So pick 3 might not be available.
Think 3 for Lloyd and our first rounder might be too muchComment

Watched the game at a mate's place and we both said the same about McVeigh. Right now he is an evergreen and made a huge difference. From memory only had that one howler kick into the midfield.Comment

I’m actually thinking Moore is a good punt if we can get him for a 2nd rounder. Sure, he has suffered a lot with soft tissue injuries but I’m a buy low kind of guy. He is first round talent so if we can get him for less than that and strengthen him up, he could be a steal. With Reg likely going, we are seriously undersized in the backs. Last night we had poor AJ marking Cox. Aliir would be wasted as a lock down defender and so we need a taller back to play this role. Maibaum is unlikely.Comment

Moore has barely made it through one game this year. Unless we believe (as Hawks did with Jaeger bomb) we can solve his hamstring troubles, it would be salary cap money that’s better spent elsewhere.Comment

We already have one, no two, talented but injury prone tall players out of the side at the moment. One of whom, Melican would have taken Cox last night you would think.

If Reg retires and with Tippett already gone, we will be 2 talls (KPPs) fewer in 2019 than what is currently on our list. As you say, Melican and Reid are also often out with injury. McCartin is a kid, Maibaum is untried and is no certainty to be retained or successful if he plays. Pink will be gone.
Blakey will be one addition but he’s more likely to be playing NEAFL than 1s.
All in all, we will be very thin in this department and so if we can pay unders for a talent like Darcy Moore, I think it’s a risk worth taking.Comment
