2018 trading, drafting and list management: players and personnel
I'll say yes to Gaff. Wouldn't that just piss the southerners off badly.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun. Blessedare the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
With the news of live trading of draft picks at the next draft, has anyone watched the Kevin Costner movie, Draft Day?
I’m a sucker for that movie - I’ve watched it at least 5 times. It has recently become part of my lead-in to watching the actual NFL draft each year. Good viewing all round.
It would be nice if we could take one first round pick, sprinkle it with fairy dust and turn it into three very good players. Who knows - I’d watch it all the same, though.
Good piece in the Age suggesting Saints might try to turn their first pick (probably 4) into two first round picks, possibly vĂa Adelaide, one of which they’d hand over for Hanners.
Article also says other clubs believe the Swans are planning to swoop on someone. I’m intrigued by who?
“St Kilda could try to do pick four to Adelaide for two first rounders which would give them something to pass on to Sydney for Hannebery while keeping a first rounder for themselves in the draft.”
“Should Sydney agree to trade Hannebery, where would that leave them in the trade period?”
“Clubs believe they are jockeying to make a play for a player. Hannebery going out would free up salary cap space and a pick coming in would give them something to trade with given they will need to use their own first round draft pick on John Blakey's son Nick, an academy player who turned down potential father son offers from Brisbane and North Melbourne.”
Hannebery is not desperate to leave the Swans & neither do Swans want to lose him. With 3 years remaining on his contract, the Swans are in a commanding position to play hard ball & 1 late first round draft pick ain't gonna cut it. If St Kilda are desperate to prize Hannebery they're going have to pay overs to have any chance, like Adelaide did last year in getting 28 yo Bryce Gibbs by giving Carlton 2 x 1st round picks (10 & 16). Similar to Hanners, Bryce did have another 2 years to run on his Carlton contract if I recall correctly.
We traded Mitchell for Number 14. He was out of contract so our bargaining power was limited at the time. Nevertheless Mitchell was far younger with a lot of upside. Personally I don’t think Hannebery is worth much more than this in the current market given his banged up body and form of recent times. So the Saints would have to be very keen to give up something more than this for him.
Wow I wonder who we are after ? Hopefully not Moore, another Reid, can’t stay on the park. Hopefully an absolute jet of a mid fielder ? The contracted Dylan Shiel would be nice but talk is he will return to Vic if he leaves GWS.
The idea that 'we are going after someone else in the trade period, although not Darcy Moore,' appears to have come about after we landed Kurt and Buddy a few years ago. Nobody saw those trades coming.
We haven't really done anything else big (what with the trade ban etc).
Any ideas what we could have up our sleeves or is it just other clubs being paranoid?

I find it impossible to believe that we would be after Moore for the same reasons you mentioned. Plus, Blakey will be able to play as a swing man. We don't need three of them.
I wonder about Andrew Gaff too. It wouldn't be the first time the Swans brought in a player who had just bashed another player. Do the names Barry Hall and Tony Lockett ring a bell
Yeah but we also let Hall go because of this kind of thing.
I'd suggest that the Swans will steer well clear of Gaff for the whole culture thing.
Same with Talia. When that happened I said he should not play again for the Swans, and a heated discussion ensued about kids, mistakes and widespread drug use.
Wasn't surprising to me that it was the end of his game time.
Would be interesting to see how WC fans react to Gaff if he went to the Swans
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.
It's interesting how this year coaches have openly come out and said they are interested in an opposition player. Buckley was even open about meeting with Lynch.
I don't think I feel comfortable with this. But it's something I'm going to have to get used to.
