I can't see the logic in the Saints giving up a younger player in order to get Hannebery. I believe that Hanners will be a great contributor for them for the next few years and will be a great leader but he won't be around when they are vying for a premiership. Giving up a young player with potential, like Acres, makes no sense unless they are going to lose Acres regardless.

Saints aren't giving up the lesser McCartin, what egg on the face would that be being a number 1 pick?
Not sure why people are suggesting Paddy McCartin or Josh Bruce are needed, Reid will be the other key forward next year (don't bring up injuries) forcing the re-signed Tom McCartin back to the NEAFL, we don't need another KPF.
I reckon the Hanners trade will be for next years second and maybe a swap of thirds at best. We are wanting to offload the salary so we'll take unders and get it done quickly so we have picks and salary cap space to work other trades and re-signings.Comment

Hey guys,
Loving the thread, I am glad to have found the forum, been looking for a place to engage directly with fellow Swans fans about the club and where we sit at the moment for a while!
In terms of the potential Hannebery trade I am firmly of the belief that we shouldn't be accepting unders. I think a trade of Hannebery + 13 for Pick 4 is what we should target and if they aren't willing to come to the table we should keep Hanners. Given St Kilda clearly believe with a complete pre-season they can get him back close to his best, why couldn't we do the same? I understand the talk of salary cap relief but at the end of the day we will have most if not all of the Tippett contract off our books next year plus Rohan and potentially Newman/Lloyd, while it may not enable us to target a big fish this year it certainly would for next year. Add Mcveigh, Jack, Grundy and potentially Smith and suddenly we have a large amount of cap space to target a big fish in the 2019 off season. While it may be an unpopular opinion, I think realistically we are a fair way off the mark at the moment and in order to reach the level of realistic premiership contenders I think we should set up for a major tilt in 2020.Last edited by ISIBIDBI; 17 September 2018, 11:53 AM.Comment

He's supposed to be a gun... everyone screaming that he should be elevated to the firsts... at full-forward no less!!
I'm sorry, but I think there are other players who should have gotten a gig before him.
He's almost in the right place at the right time; and when he is, he drops easy marks.

I think his role was just to make a contest. Without injuries I'm sure he would just have played a game or two. Tough position for a young guy to play. Lots of room to improve particularly with his kicking. I'm sure he'll take a lot from the year. Hopefully, a good investment in his future.Comment

Do you think they'd hurry up and get him signed?

The first loss was with the best sports Dr - Nathan Gibbs. Since then we have lost asset after asset and gained dodgy choices to fill positions. Really, our forwards coach with absolutely NO coaching experience (Cats mate), ruck coach with not a lot of coaching under his belt and now, another Cats recruit in a major role in our admin area.
We've lost players and coaches like nobodies business since he arrived, starting with the good Doctor. What has he brought to us except for a clear demonstration of empire building.
Cannot reveal sources but I too have heard morale is at a low.
It's not Longmires fault as he has to play with the hand he is given. I can only hope that the entrenched brotherhood and internal leaders can step up and guide us through the "Harley Empire" period.Comment

He will be .......and ......he will. I reckon he showed signs this season of just what a clever footy player he will be and that he possesses a sound footy brain. Sure he was thrown into the deep end this year and I think he showed plenty for a raw 18 yr old. This season's experience will see him blossom into a gun in the next two seasons.....much better than his over rated brother (who admittedly hasn't had a lot of luck in his first few seasons).Comment
